Offset/Backspacing Confusion - please help

Hi All,

Came across your forum while doing a desperate search for info. I will search the archives, but I have a time issue to deal with, so apologies if this has been covered.

I have a 1999 Tahoe LT 4door/4x4 and it currently has Eagle Series 219 wheels (18x8 I think and 14mm offset) with 285/60-18 tires. Here's the problem: because neither I nor the guy I bought them from knew about offsets and backspacing, the front wheels stick out too much (2"). Some people like this look, which is fine, but I prefer the "flush with fender" look. I wanted a fat tire to fill out the wheel wells but definitely no sticking out.

I now have a person willing to buy the 18" 219s, so I am looking for 20" in some model, with most probably 285/50-20 tires.

Please tell me what is the magic number for wheel width, offset and backspacing for the desired look? I can't find this info anywhere.

There is obviously something different with the new body style, as the same wheels look great on those trucks. There must be something that looks "flush" on an old body style Tahoe??

I'm totally lost and need your help. Thanks in advance!

BTW, like simple wheel design like Eagle 219 or Enkei Deep Six etc. (with a lip)
