brake job guide

Didn't someone write a kind of "how to" for replacing pads and rotors on the 99 and up trucks? Specifically the fronts. I did a search and went back a few months in the posts but I couldn't find anything,

thanks

It's actually a pretty simple job. Once you remove the wheel you'll need either a 13mm or 18mm socket to remove the two bolts on the calipers. I can't remember which size. Once those two bolts are removed you can pull the brake assembly off the rotor. You'll need something to support it because you don't want that weight dangling on the brake line. There should be two or three aluminum push clips on the wheel studs. You can yank those off with a screwdriver and pliers. The rotor should slide right off over the studs and you can start the reassembly with the new parts. The brake pads should just slide out of the calipers. You may need a C clamp or something to pry the calipers back to fit new pads over the rotor.

Hope I'm not leading you down the wrong path but that's the way it works on my GMC. Good luck.

I recommend investing in a Chilton's manual. This has allowed me, someone with little confidence or experience with auto repair, to complete repairs from brakes to replacing u-joints.

Also, when replacing the front pads you'll need a torx socket #52 I believe.

That sounds great, thanks for the response. I saw a chiltons the other day in Pep Boys, I'll probably swing by and get one soon.
