We received our first shipment of the VaraRam King Cobra inductions today!This is the non-ram air that is designed to be mated up to the stock tube that runs to the throttlebody. The full ram air kits were supposed to be shipping to us today but VaraRam is still waiting for a few parts to finish production. I'll be installing this on my Silverado HD later today and will report any mileage and seat of the pants gains towards the end of next week.

I give up on giving you guys a potential ship date. It will be better for me to not say anything about the full ram air system until they are delivered to us because I have no idea at this point

Arrrgh,it's not your fault though.

I've just been kind of anxious and thought that they would be sending them out because you have the standard kit already.I'll probably just order the standard intake and then add the ram air later.

The King Cobra took about 10 minutes to install with a screw driver. That doesn't include the time that it took me to look through "the pile" to find a factory 8.1 induction so I could pull the stock tube off. I probably could have used the one from "the other induction" that's was on the truck but I wanted to use this how VaraRam designed it -

It will be flipped over to use the ram air portion of the kit. This would allow air to be rammed into the duct and then forced into the induction. This will be sold seperate if you decide to go with the regular version first.

ah yes it finally arrived, i just have some questions

1. is that a foam filter?

2. is it a nice quality system?

3. i was looking under the hood of my yukon yesterday and was looking where they show the ram air chute to be but the top shroud over the radiator nearly comes into contact with hte hood leaving no room for the ram air thing, is it like this with your truck (im assuming not because you have the hd hood)

how is this diffrent from stock? for the non ram air kit any way. ram air should be direct out side air flow. is that right and were does it come from? my 95 gmc z71 had an air silencer that you could take off, any know if the 04 hd 4x4 do?

This system uses a foam filter and the overall quality is very good. They did a god job putting this together. I was also wondering just how the ram air tube would fit. It's not supposed to be to high but it's wide to draw in as much air as possible. It will fit under all of the hoods so we'll see how that goes.

The King Cobra is much more efficient than the factory airbox. They accomplished this by producing a true sealed cold air system that uses a multiple venturi design to maximize overall airflow efficiency. It's designed to be used with the stock air tube that runs to the throttlebody. This was done to maintain the velocity of air into the motor.

I've only driven about 40-50 miles with the new induction and layed into it a few times. Overall the truck is more responsive than the other system that I was using. This became noticeable when I got stock behind an older lady (ok, I only saw knuckles and what hair) who was driving a K-car. I'm going to fill up tomorrow and see what this does to be gas milages this week.

sweet looks like im gonna have to get one when theyre more readily available , i wonder if the oil from the foam filter can screw up the mass airflow sensor in the long run like somepeople with those 40 dollar k&n drop ins can't wait now

Ahhh, the oil the filter mess again. That's not for me. Shame too, because the hype certainly sounds very intriguing.

its actually a pretty normal process to me because i have dirtbike airfilters that i have to clean after every ride, i think the only main thing after a filter cleaning is that you need to let the oil thicken out and get tacky before you start the truck up or else the truck will suck in the thinned out oil just like dirtbikes, also since its seeing mainly road applications a heavy amount of oil would probably not be needed as oppossed if you were doing some offroad type stuff in a lot of dust, someone also make these skins that go over the filter called prechargers or filterskins to trap the bigger pieces before they can get in the filter, looks like a good idea for this thing, also a foam filter is the only way they can get a fitler to flow over 1000 cfm like they claim

Most of the aftermarket inductions like K+N and Volant use filters that require oil.

They finally brought me my non ram air intake last friday. I have to say at first i was not to impressed with the rubber plate on the bottom of the intake its self.

Seems like they could have made it from plastic or metal. Maybe its rubber to

make it quieter.The first time I got on it there was less acceleration then with

the K & N drop in. Could have been from having the battery disconected for about

two hours per instructions.Now after about 100 miles its alot better. Full acceleration shifts into second gear can most of the time break loose the 285/75/16

mtr's. Gas petal is very touchy now.I have not tried any new 0-60 times because

of all my carpentry tools are in the bed . So far this intake is by far the best

functioning system I have used. But I may have to take it out in the winter

when I have the plow on the truck. I think the rear will be too loose to drive

safe on the slippery stuff when not in 4 wheel drive. I may be able to post some

times by next week.
