Maybe a stupid question......

Hey :banghead:

I was thinking of getting the 50 series SUV/truck muffler for my 97 oldsmobile bravada. I was going to cut the stock muffler off and weld he new one in.

First question is...

1: Is it that simple to do?

2: Will this hurt any part of my suv at all?

3: Can we still use the stock tail pipe?

4: Is it possible to get a single inlet/dual outlet muffler and run two pipes going out the side from the stock location? (behind the rear right wheel)

Thanks for your help

It would be better to take both pipes out one sid eif you have the under body spare tire (full size). I under stand that if you dual out the exhaust there are some clearance issues and the spare tire gets really hot.

As far as the muffler goes you will have to add a small pieace of pipe unless you fine an exact fit aftermarket muffler ( good luck). But It really isnt hard to do the swap. :banghead:

One more question...

I have heard the sound files on the flowmaster site for the 50 series SUV and some sound different than others. I know that different pipe lenths and sizes makes some differences but does anyone have any idea of what that muffler would sound like on my SUV with the 4.3L V6?

Thanks :banghead:

I'll tell you it won't sound like you hope it will. Remember you have a six shooter and it won't have that nice rumble that your looking for but it will sound better then stock. I installed 40 series on my Grand Prix and was pleased with the results.

What flowmaster muffler would you recommend for the best rummble sound? I don't wantit to be loud and I don't want it to sound like a ricer.

Thanks

I had a 40 series on my '96 S10 with the 4.3. It had a nice sound without being too obnoxious.

It won't quite make it sound like you have a V8, but it does sound a lot better than stock. It gave my truck a nice sound at idle, an aggresive, but not obnoxious sound while accelerating, and tapered off once up to speed, which was what I was wanting.

I didn't think that it sounded ricey at all, although it will sound somewhat different from a V8 at upper RPM's

I was thinking of getting the big block muffler with a single exit and dual outlit and running the pipes out the back on eather side of the trailer hitch.

How do you think that would sound. What would be the best way to route the exhaust be? I know that the way it is routed out of the car makes a difference so what do you think would be the best way to get the throaty sound that I want. Thanks

I've heard that on an SUV, you don't want the exhaust coming straight out the back, because the fumes could make their way into the rear hatch. Your best bet would probably be to have them routed around the spare, then turned at an angle to come out behind the rear wheels.

I haven't heard anything with the big block muffler on it yet, I've just heard the 50 and 40 series.

Using one of the aftermarket air intakes may help give it a throatier sound as well. I put a K&N FIPK on my Silverado, and it gave it a more agressive sound

Ok. Thanks Midnight :)

I just don't want to have a ricer sounding car, that's all. By the way you put it, I think that I would be ok. The stock exhaust sounds like a VERY,VERY quiet flowmaster so maybe the flowmaster can help it out some. I do have a K&N air filter element. Probly won't get the cold air intake. I will call up flowmaster tommorow to see what they say. I will let you know. I will also call up the place that I will be having the exhaust put in. They have a picture of a chevy blazer with flowmasters and dual 3" tips coming out the back.

Thanks again :)

i dont like flowmaster do to the drone they have while driving. i have had them on mine and ended up going to a magnaflow. it is a deep tone down low and while accelerating and then when i get to 70mph it is very quiet.

I had a Flowmaster 40 (non-DeltaFlow) on my ZR2 with dual 2.25" pipes and 3" tips. Since the 4.3L is basically a 350ci, less 2 cylinders, it sounded really good at idle (had many questions about whether it was a V8), but at 2000+ RPM no one will mistake it for a V8.

Mine also had JBA headers and an MSD 6A ignition module (fire in the hole!), and really sounded sweet when moving thru parking barns, tunnels, under bridges, etc!

Good luck!
