Front End Alignment

Recommended Posts

Posted

I brought my 1994 Chevy c2500 in for a front end alignment this morning. The mechanic called me and said my camber was off, and to correct it, a metal plate needed to be removed, and he would need to charge me 1 hour of labor in addition to the price of the alignment. I asked if he was referring to the shims. He told me there were no shims, it was a metal plate that needed to be removed. I asked him if this was something aftermarket, and he said no. Am I being ripped off? What is he talking about?

Sometimes the adjustment is capped at the factory. I've seen this on other trucks but I'm not familiar with yours specifically. Best bet, take it in and have him show you, or call another shop and ask them if this could be something they would need to do to align your truck. Act like your brother-in-law told you this and you're going to have them do it, you just want an accurate price quote.

It never hurts to get a second opinion as for taking off a metal plate taking an hour  if you had to replace something i could see an extra sucharge but just to take off a plate that just sounds like a stab at your wallet. I had my tranny blow out 2 qaurts of fluid in my bronco (now long gone  ) and he told me there was nothing wrong with it and he put 2 quarts back in it  I immidietly went to another garage and found out my dip stick tube had broken off and said there was no way he could have put fluid in without losing half of it on the ground. I have since spread the word about this garage. But if money isn't an option go nuts :seeya: My best buddy is now the only guy I go 2 , good discounts and he'll work for beer

The OBS trucks did have "knock offs" that needed to be removed for an alignment to be performed.

What he is telling you is probably 100% correct.
