Urgent: Oil Pressure Sender Question

Does anyone know where the oil pressure sender is located on a 96 Yukon with 5.7L Vortec engine?? I just put the transmission back in the truck after having it bench overhauled and now my oil pressure gauge is pegged. I am assuming that I might have knocked the wire off the sending unit, but I am not sure where to look to find it.

 

Any help will be greatly appreciated since I am supposed to go car shopping tomorrow morning and the truck will be a trade-in.

It should be on the block somewhere.

 

Look at the block in the area you were working on and you should be able to find it as there shouldn't be many other electrical sensors in that vicinity.

If the gauge is pegged, then there is probably a wire pinched to ground somewhere. I don't know about your '96, but on my '92 half ton, the oil sender is at the top of the block in the back, right behind the distributor.

It's probably at the back of the top of the block like etex211 said, or it could be on the block right above the oil filter. I've never seen them anywhere else on 350 small blocks myself.

I found that I pinched the wires going to the oil pressure sender. This morning when I went to work on the truck it wouldn't start. It would blow the ECU fuse as soon as I turned on the ignition. Once I cut the wires and soldered them back together the truck ran again, but the oil pressure gauge is still pegged.

 

Is is possible that the sensor is bad now since the wires got shorted together??

I would think that a short in that circuit would hurt the guage or printed circuit in the instrument cluster, not the sender, unless the sender got bent or damaged.
