I just got some new wheels and tires for my 2004 z71. I got black helo maxx wheels and 265 bfg all terrain tires.

 

My questions is that when I drive in the city, nothing over 45 mph everything feels the same as it did with stock wheels and tires. But once I go over 60 I have by steering wheels shake death wobble. Would you say that my tires aren't balanced properly???

 

Or are these tires really going to make that much of a difference in ride quality? It was soooo smooth stock, I figured it would be no different.

Sounds like you have a tire out of balance. I think that it's a little tricky to balance those thick BFG's. When I had my 285's installed it rode great, but when I got on the highway at about 58 to 67 mph, I could mix a drink on the dash board.

Then I had them roadforce balanced, which compensates for variances between the tire and wheel, and after spinning 1 tire 180* it was like a new truck.

If a roadforce balancer can't get em to balance, then there's a bad wheel or tire, and the machine will actually tell you.

Are your wheels Hub-Centric? That could be the cause of the wobble. Also, like others mentioned, an out of balance tire, or simply an out-of-round tire can do that. If you can feel it more on one side than the other, swap your front tires around and see if the problem follows it.

I'm going to a tire shop to get them looked at and re-balanced tomorrow morning. My only complaints are at highway speeds and from the info you've provided I think it will all work out.

-These are the wheels I bought if anyone is curious, they are black powdercoat. I always wanted black wheels but just plain rockcrawler wheels suck to me. I wanted some more bling and these wheels are just what I was looking for. It gives my silver truck a way different look and I haven't decided if I like it yet.

I agree with the point about hub-centric.

Are the wheels fitted to the hub size or do they have big holes in the middle like for old 4x4s?

You would be suprised the difference it can make.

Well today after getting everything rebalanced the wobble in the steering wheel is the same. And then I had the shop call helo wheels and ask about the hub centric part and they said they make those wheels in hub centric and in big boy. I guess I have big boy and need hub centric. The guy at helo said to buy the hub spacer and it will fill the gap and make everything snug. I want the right wheels for my truck, not some extra peices that will make it work now, but could possibly mess up down the road. What you do if you were in my situation. I went to a shop and told them what wheels I wanted and they got them, but it turns out they are the wrong ones. These hub spacers should be here in two days so I'll see how it works.

 

back to the shop, after having them all rebalanced they said my steering stablizer is bad. I said hell the truck has 1300 miles on it, there is no way the truck is doing the shaking. It road like a caddy with stock wheels and tires the day I had these put on.

 

I'm almost positive its not the tires, but then they say well bfg all terrain are really aggressive and will do that, I call bs. I know many people with these tires and absolutely no complaint.

 

I'm fed up to the point to where I wish I would have stayed stock instead of messing with things, but it's just wheels and tires. Should I be so mad?

 

what would you do?

Make them get you the right ones. I have had similar crap served to me that the car has problems and needs fixing. If you have 1300 miles it is definitely the wheels. The wheels are the only variable. It was fine stock. Plus they admitted that the hub centric were the ones you needed.

I can only say I feel your pain, you are not alone. My problem is much different than yours, but in a sense they are 2 of the same. Find a good tire guy that's been around the block a few times. Good Luck!

It is THEIR problem, NOT yours!

 

Tell them to order the CORRECT wheels for your application or they can take tires, wheels and all and keep them, after they give you a REFUND. It is obvious that they don't know what they are doing, so the egg is on them!

 

Stand firm and don't accept a bandaid for an amputation!

The shop is going to do what they can to get the new wheels in. I know these guys and they aren't trying to screw me and are willing to make things right. I just hope it doesn't mess anything up on my truck. I'll keep you cats updated on all this...

      This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.

      2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.
