XM tuner

Was looking for an OEM GM XM tuner box if anyone has one to get rid of. Must be 2003 or newer, and any extra with it would be good to, like the antenna or the harness. Thanks

no, the tuner box hooks up to the NAV. I think it mounts behind the glove box.

JP Customs has an upgrade kit, but with it being factory OEM new, it is rather pricey. It includes all the bits and pieces, Delphi satellite receiver, antenna, etc.

That is more than the GM list for that factory add on. It lists for $397.14 and can be had for like $50 less than that. I was quoted $350 at my dealer for it.

ive seen the pieces floating around E-bay before....all added up they came to about $150.....I am patient, i will wait till they pop up again. Thanks

GM Accessories has come out with an upgrade kit. It's somewhere around $300 as well as I remember. They are new so ask your dealer to call if they can't find it in the catalog. Everything mounts behind the radio, not external like the $125 systems that Best Buy sells.

One reason I didnt't get factory XM is GM's ugly antenna on the roof. I don't like the idea of that hole in my roof either. I rather add the aftermarket antenna that can be remove when newer antennas are developed. I hope to add it soon after I get my amps hooked up. I want to do that before anything else to make sure the factory HU sounds good enough to me.

Sure it is... any factory option is cheaper at the show room than what it would be when adding it later. You always will pay a premium price anytime you want to add a factory option after the fact. JP Customs has always excelled in collecting all the parts and pieces of any factory option add-on. They have nver known to be a discounter or "cheap".

 

There are other options available to adding satellite radio to a vehicle. Choice is what it is all about. Admittedly, if it were not the for the eight-character display for GM's XM option, I would have sprung for this rather than for my Pioneer 7600 unit which replaced my factory radio. I prefer the "factory look", but the display and cost factor definitely were decision factors for me.

I misphrased it. I mean that price was more than what the dealer (parts dept) lists it for. Not done at the factory but buying it after delivery. In other words you can get the same exact kit at any GM dealership (parts dept) for less. Like I said it lists for $397.14 and most parts departments sell it for less than list. I was quoted $350 at my local dealer. I then walked over to service to ask them what the install would cost (as part of it needs to be done at the dealer anyway) and they said like $100 or so..

 

I will admit that 8 CH limit is not the best but unless you add either a new headunit or new XM display you are forced with it. I guess it is a trade off between the factory look and function and the short display...

Sure it is part# 12498768. I was thinking that too, eventho the local dealer is like $25 higher than GMPartsdirect, they don't charge shipping. I think the dealer has to do some programming with it anyway so figured just get it there being the price would be close..

I've held off on posting until I get mine installed but if all works out I should be able to add Sirius for less than $75 and everything will work throught the factory radio and the steering wheel controls just like the factory.

You can choose from either XM or Sirius Satallite radio services.

 

Soundgate makes an interface that allows you to use either the Pioneer XM tuner or the Kenwood Sirius tuner.

These interfaces hook directly between the Pioneer or Kenwood and your factory radio and function just as the factory XM does.

 

The Pioneer receivers can be had for around $50 on e-bay and the Kenwood recievers are free if you subscribe to Sirius through a Kenwood dealer, you will also need to purchase a XM or Sirius antenna, I plan to run mine through the 3rd brake light and mount it to the roof to avoid any drilling and it won't hardly even be seen.

 

I should have mine installed in the next couple weeks and will post complete details and pictures.

that sounds good Steve, let us know. Its probably just me, but i want as little aftermarket electronics in my vehicle as possible. I dont mind spending a few extra bucks to get factory equipment that was meant to work with the truck. Of course i am very particular about stuff like that....im sure the setup Steve is working on will be fine as well. Its just a matter of preference i suppose. Let me know how that setup works out for you steve....and if you can throw in a few pics.
