How to Adjust Belt Tensioner

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hey -- I just bought a new belt tensioner that I'm going to install so I can re-install my serpentine belt, which I had to remove to replace my power steering pump. However, I can't figure out how to get the tensioner/pulley to move to the right so I can get the belt back on? There's not a square hole that I could just stick the end of my socker wrench in. Should I just put a hex socket over the bolt that holds the pulley to the tensioner and pull it to the rigth until I can get the belt on? Or, there is a black steel "hook" that comes out the side (similar to this picture from Dayco's website, but mine doesn't have the open square hole: http://www.daycoproducts.com/daycoweb.nsf/...ers?OpenForm)... should I just leverage a wrench between that black hook and the tensioner pulley until it moves far enough to the right?

Please help me out. I want my truck back!
