can i mix synthetic fluid with dextron

im changing my trans filter and fluid in my 2000 silverado 2500 4x4 and need to know if i can mix synthetic with what ever comes in it stock. also what synthetic would you recommend? thanks

Sure can. You can mix it. You will not get the full benefit of synthetic till it is closer to the system containing 100% synthetic but it is a start. You can get Mobil 1 ATF, AMSOIL ATF, or Redline ATF. They are good products.

 

The best thing to do is change out the filter and clean up the pan and fill it back up with what ever synthetic you want. Then at the next oil change pull the plug on the transmission and let it drain, and top it back off. If you do that for the next 3 to 4 oil changes you will pritty much have switched the system over to synthetic and will be good for a long time. This way is much cheaper than a full flush and doesn't put as much as a strain on the tranny. Not to mention cheaper on the wallet.
