no 4 wheel drive

A friend has a 94 chevy 1500 z71 4x4, pops fuse when he puts it in to 4x4. read posts on the acuater swap not sure that its the same thing. I think it might be a short. Any help would be great.

It is a short to ground before the load device that is most likely poping the fuse. I assume that power is only sent to that part fo the circuit when put in 4x4 but I dont know because I havent seen a wiring diagram for it. So from whatever load device is first in line for that circuit, all the way back to the fuse box is where the problem is. Start there and see what happens, good luck.
