Noisy Gatorback Belt

Recommended Posts

Just put on a new Goodyear Gatorback serp belt to replace the original. I replaced both the main belt and the A/C. At around 1200 rpm the belt starts to whine a little. Is this normal? Everything is lined up just right. No signs of damage or wear on the belt it's just noisy. It actually sounds kind of cool but I was just wondering if it is normal. Anyone else have one of these belts?

That doesn't sound normal, a belt shouldn't make noise. Could also be the tensioner that's making noise...a stethoscope or long prybar can help you to isolate it, just be careful not to wrapped up in the belts or fan.

I wonder if maybe it's because the Gatorback has all of those funky cross-cuts on the ribbed side? Because, like I said, everything is in perfect allignment and nothing was making noise before I installed the Gatorback. Also, I don't smell any burning rubber or anything and I've been driving a lot in traffic and in the heat.

I am experiencing a similar problem, I have replaced my serpintine belt with both a Goodyear cross cut and a cheap one, the squeal returns after about a week. I have also replaced the tensioner and idler puller. The squeal keeps returning.
