Stupid GM Tonneau Question

How do you get the bloody thing off? The is the tonneau that comes standard on the Denali. The owners manual is vague, at best, and the guy at the accessory store and I didn't want to push / pull on anything too hard for fear of breaking something.

Start at one of the corners and pull it up. The sides will start coming up. The cover has an edge that slips into a groove on the rails. Once you get it started, the rest of the edges should slip right out. The front edge of the cover is attached to the front rail so it has to be slid out horizontally from the front rail. Installation is the reverse. I usually install the rear edge first, then the sides.

Thanks. I ran into a guy at another accessory shop that used to work at a GMC dealer and installed the GM tonneaus. I thought it was interesting that GM printed instructions for removal on the underside of the cover. LOL.

 

On the instructions, it mentions a caution for use in the winter. Can this cover be removed and installed in the winter? This is a problem if not. I'm seriously considering scrapping the GM cover for an Access Cover or Truxedo.

I have taken my cover off in the winter, and put it back on. The problem is that the vinyl is cold and will not stretch. One time when it was really cold out, I took the cover inside the house to warm it up. I then took it out and installed it before it got too cold.

 

Now I have an A.R.E. fiberglass lid. More security, but less flexibility when needing to transport items that are taller than the bed. A trade-off.

I have a low profile Truxedo on order to be installed tomorrow afternoon. I removed the GM cover and hardware today in anticipation of getting Line-X in the morning.
