check engine light

My check engine light came on twice. Ive got a scanner an it says (P0751 shift solenoid A performance or stuck off) thats exactly what it says. Anyone have an idea what this means.

It indicates a shifting problem, the pcm has detected a problem with the 1-2 shift solenoid(or the valve is stuck or has bad seals) that has probably left you with either first and forth or second and third gear at some point

Is that a hard fix whats all involved and is it going to be expensive

What year? Someone may have the info, but S10's had a 21 year span...

Its a 97 s10ss with a 4.3 auto
