MAGNAFLOW vs. flowmaster

I bought a new truck a few months ago and needed a new muffler put on my truck. The dealer recommended a Flowmaster 70 series. I had em put it on.

It was OK, but I wanted something a little louder, so I paid for a 50 series flowmaster only to find that I lost 2 mpg (literally) and the performance gains weren't any better or worse.

So I took the truck back, and had a Magnaflow put on. I gained 1 1/2 mpg over the flowmaster 70 series, 3 1/2 over the 50 series, and power is MUCH improved.

I have 35" tires, so any increase/decrease in HP is obvious. With the flowmaster I couldn't set my cruise and get it to hold. Especially when climbing hills. But with the Magnaflow, I just set the cruise, and not only does it hold, but it holds very well well climbing.

I'm definetly over flowmaster and for MAGNAFLOW!!!

I've got Flows on the 92, and a Magnaflow on the 02...I like them both. Both gave a very...VERY slight increase in mileage. Around 1 mpg.

Magnaflow's not loud at cruising speeds to me. I have the shortest one you can get too... It's supposed to be the loudest. Nice tone on acceleration, but no cabin drone.

I'm really disappointed with flowmaster, and their service. They told me on the phone that there was no way for them to guarantee an increase or decrease in Fuel economy or performance. They essentially told me to pound sand...

I'll never buy another one, that's for certain.

Got the Flowmaster on mine and didn't notice a difference. I guess when it is time to replace the Flowmaster then Magnaflow will be my next choice. I'm always looking for better MPG, especially with the price of gas. I wonder if they make a muffler that would fit the 91 Jetta Turbo Diesel? Hmmmmmm

I'm a flowmaster/magnaflow convert too. My old 89' had a 40 series flowmaster turned down at the rear axle (single in/dual out) and it sounded perfect outside the truck. Inside the drone was crazy loud, as my truck was a "base" model without much insulation to speak of. Made it really uncomfortable to drive on the highway.

The magnaflow, on the other hand, sounds awesome outside and inside. Very little drone, if any, and it helped my gas mileage a little as well.

There's some links to vid. clips in my sig, and link to a post with part numbers and pics as well.

Magnaflow rocks!

Flowmaster is too freaking loud and too much for a name. Mangaflow is the way to go!

Not on mine. I had dual 50 series(not the SUV ones) on my 02 2500HD with the 6.0, and currently have a Magnaflow catback on my 05 Sierra Z71(part #15792).

The Magnaflow is waaaaaaaaaaaaay louder than the flowmaster setup was. Not that I'm complaining or anything. Just saying what my experience is.

BTW - the place that I had my tips welded on, the owner has an 02 Z71 Chevy with a 40 series muffler, and his is quieter than my Magnaflow.
