Steering wheel groan...

Hi yall, anyone else get this kinda low growl when you turn the steering

wheel perhaps making a right hand turn or something? I've been changing the power steering fluid over to fresh synthetic stuff but its still there. Plus it sounds like the pump makes a squealing groaning sound at idle. The pump assistance is fine, and I got some Lucas PS fluid to add to it to see if it helps. Any other ideas?

Maybe the front bearing in the pump is shot?

 

If it's hard to turn, you may be stuck in four wheel drive, but that would give you alot of noise and the front wheels would bind when trying to turn on dry pavement.

My '03 does the same and only intermittently. No idea what it is. I have my recall notice for my tailgate cables so when I bring it in for the cables I will have them listen for the groan.

 

Although I think they are going to write "Unable to duplicate problem" on the work order. Oh well, I'll hope for the best!

My 98 Tahoe does it, I think it is the steering stabelizer. Only because I only noticed it after I installed it.

MY Suburban does this in the cold and my Vette just started a similar noise ,it must be a Chevy thing????Niether has any problems with it though.

Ditto on my 03. My initial thought was a power steering pump issue, but it's only intermittent. I'll ask about it when I get my steering shaft replaced and gate cables replaced (dealer says they are now replacing steering shafts rather than lubing them).
