ATV plow

I'm looking at getting a plow for my 650. I have a winch, so all I need is a plow and the mounting bracket. Which ones have the smallest and simplest brackets? What brand do you have and how do you like it?

I have a Yamaha Wolverine with a plow. A buddy gave me a factory Polaris v-plow in exchange for doing his driveway every year. I got the winch, winch mount, and plow frame from these guys.www.cyclecountry.com

All the parts came to about $400. I pretty happy with the set-up, except for the the way the winch is mounted. All the parts are built well with a good finish. They have a lot of other atv tools too.

I went with the Glacier Plow on my Sportsman due to ease of installation (basically just drive on and lock the pin and connect the winch). If not I would have gone with CycleCounty as those are supposed to be pretty good. I went with the commercial Polaris blade so it is 1/4" thick. One thing you will find is that the ATV (even my 700 Sportsman) don't have the weight to move the big snow banks so spin. I even got it stuck in deep snow a few times last winter forcing me to pull it out with the truck.

I have a '94 Polaris 400L 4x4 with a Polaris Vplow on it. It is an older one, but I wasn't impressed with the plow. Maybe my dad or myself were too hard on it, but now it is welded straight for strength. It works good now, but I am planning on selling that machine. I have seen Moose, Warn, Cycle country, but not an Eagle yet. Anyone have an Eagle brand plow? They are made in a town close to me, but haven't seen one yet. I have heard good things about most of the plows, but I'm not sure how they mount. I want something quick and a mount that is either easy to remove or doesn't lower my ground clearance.

With the cycle country mount, I lost 1" of ground clearance. I take it off for the summer though. It's only 4 u-bolts holding it on. It takes about ten minutes to get it on and off. When I was shopping for mine 2 years ago, all the mounts seemed very similar in design.

I kinda agree the Polaris V-plow isn't the best. I broke a few bolts on it last year, but I also hit a few hidden curbs. I just keep spare parts for it right with the ATV now.

I've hit a few solid things with my Polaris plow and have not busted a thing. In fact I had to pull it out of a ditch by the plow frame one time. Plus the mount that stays on year round does not cause any ground clearance loss. In fact it makes a nice place to hook the winch cable to when not in use.

I've got the warn plow with the lift motor(didn't want to use the winch). It has held up great for the last 3 winters. The lift motor doesn't use as much power as the winch plus i can use the winch without disconnecting it from the plow. With snow type tires I could move the drifts that were higher than the plow. I was going to check into the county type plow,but if we get that much snow I get out the blower anyway.

I checked out the Glacier plow and it looks real nice, and I like the mounting. The have a mount for a Kawasaki, but I'm not liking the idea of having a Polaris plow and they are a little more expensive. I went and looked at an Eagle plow made by American Manufacturing and it looked real strong. The blade skids were huge and the bracket doubles as a skid plate. I could get the 60" Country plow and all parts needed for about $400. I may pick it up tomorrow from ShadeTree.

The plate that stays on all the time on the glacier plow also acts like a skid plate as well. As for cost mine cost a little over $400 with the commercial 60" blade.

What snow tires are you using? I know the Gatorbacks that come with the Polaris are not the best in snow.

I have the maxxis sur traks. They work great in the snow.They work pretty well on ice also when pushing snow. They seem to be a good tire in the sand also but not so hot in the mud,as they don't seem to want to self clean the wet mud very good. They wear kinda fast on hard packed roads and blacktop so having another set of tires for that kind of riding wouldn't be a bad idea.

Thanks I will have to look at them. The gatorbacks are pretty good in the mud (terrible in deep snow) but I even got them gummed up enough to turn them into slicks and require a pull out.

my prairie 700 sports a 60" cycle country plow with winch and is great.. easy to mount and disconnect.. I have 26" mudlites on it and have no complaints.. easily moves the snow of an upstate ny storm (be realistic though)..
