Anyone paint their lower air dam?

Anyone paint their lower air dam.  The piece which houses the fog lights?  Light grey

I seen a white gmc with his painted white.  Looked good.  I am thinking of going black or blue.

What needed to be done?  What type of paint?

Thanks

I've heard you can do it, but you need a lot of flex in your primer.  I don't know if I would, I would think that it would take a lot of rock chips.   I'm guessing that gray bugs you too.  I'm going to get the PIAA air dam which comes in black and looks much better IMO.

Jon it comes in black?  I pmed tbryne and never got a reply.  Thats what i as asking him

hmmm screw painting it then

yeah, that's the big selling point for me.  Since I don't have fogs on my truck I was thinking of getting the GM fog light kit which would run me about 100 bucks.  And then I'd have to get it painted for anoter 50 bucks at least and it would probably chip.  So, if I'm going to get a b/l I might as well spend a little extra and get this one w/ some better lights on it.  I bet they don't shake as much either.

Chev4x4, if you are going to do a b/l , I would hold off on the Piaa airdam b/cause you may not have the proper clearance for bigger lights once you are done.

It won't  ???  I was hoping that it would work better w/ the larger openings so that I wouldn't have to do any trimming on the valence or frame horns.

With the B/L will it not give me enough room on the far sides of the bumper?  Anyone know how deep those lights are?

Jon how much have you seen the airdam going for?

Driverfx.com has it for $180

Ryan, I know T Byrne has it.  I'll do some checking around tonight for the cheapest price on it.  I guess you can get it from stylin' concepts as well, but they don't have it listed on there site, you'd have to call.

When were you planning on getting it?  Are you going to hook it up to your factory fog light switch?

If I get it, I'm hooking it up to the factory fog light switch directly so it'll over ride the computer and I can run them whenever I want.

ill run new lights off the switch and wiring thats already there

if you get a price from tb let me know

They've got it on there site.  But I'll do some checking my mags at home and see what I can find.  I'll let you know on it.  I think I'll get it and risk it.  If it doesn't work, well, I'll make it work.

I painted mine the same time I did the bumper caps.  Do not use regular primer on these pieces.  You want to use an "Adhesion Promoter".  The only problem I had was with the little clips that hold on the piece.  There is like 20 or so, and I couldn't get 4 of 'em back in.  Haven't noticed and adverse effects from it though.  No rock chip yet either, and I painted it in June!

Yup they make a plastic part adhesion promoting primer. Most all the auto paint cos. make em and they work good. The trick to no chips is to use as little paint as possible, just enough base coat and maybe only 1 coat of urethane clear.Since this is a texture part and down low on the truck it doesn't need the UV protection clearcoating provides.Flex additive is a product which slows the cure process of a 2 part urethane product allowing it to remain flexible for installation. After 30 days the urethane cures and is fully cured.I'm painting my grille and airdam in April to mach the body color.

That interesting Gsxer2. Are you doing the painting yourself?  I'm doing the same thing. Took the grill, lower valance, bumper cap off yesterday. If I do in fact go through with it (myself) it will be my first time painting anything automotive :0

Anymore tips? Should I get the paint right from the dealer?

Thanks
