No power steering or brakes

At start up I had no power steering or brakes.

I know the power steering pump runs the brake assist

and steering.

Only happened twice, once last year and then this year.

Both times it was cold out side.

Only lasted a couple minutes or so.

Then back to normal.

Could it be the pump going bad, or is there a check valve

that could be sticking?

Would changing the fluid help?

Has anyone else had this problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

Truck in sig. Thanks

Changing the fluid should be a normal service routine. I have lost my power steering while driving and let me tell you it is a scary experience. The only thing that bothers me about saying it is the hydro pump is that the accumulator on the brakes should hold at least 5 pumps of the brake pedal. Does it do that?

No, there is no brakes at all.

But it is at start up so there is no presure built up.

Fluid level ok

Belt not slipping

It is possible the pulley is slipping on the shaft.

It is tough to see, I will have to mark it with paint or something.

That was my next step. But when it happens it does not last long.

I do not think (hope) it is the pump because any other time

it works like the day it was new.

I will change the fluid.

Maybe it has moisture in it.

Is there a check valve that could be bad?

Thanks for the replies.
