Am I nuts hand washing my truck.....

I just got done washing my truck in 36 deg weather.....and raining.  MY HANDS ARE COLD!!!  :)  :D I had to wash off the beginnings of road salt and solve my window smearing problem.  (I think it was just road kickup).  Anyways, it wasn't too bad.  I had a rain suit on, and I didn't have to worry about water spots.......and I was done in 10 minutes, instead of 30.  Darn hands are beginning to get their full range of movement now   :stupid:  :)

nope

I just spent 3.5 hrs outside (no rain thought).

Changed my oil, washed my moms blazer then washed my truck.

It was cold but my truck was filthy

Yes, you are nuts. I will wash my truck in 36 degee weather, then take it out for a 30 drying drive. But not when it's raining. Might be more productive than sitting at this computer tho. It's raining here also.

no your not I did mine last weekend it was about the same temp I had to dry mine off in the garage because the driveway had a nice sheet of ice on it after I got done washing the truck

at least the rain x ireapplied to my front windows helped out

Also my tires were pretty bad.  The bfg white letters were almost black (dirt).  It was worth it

You aren't nuts at all, or maybe we all are! I have had the water freeze on the vehicle as I washed it. You had to keep spraying the ice off. If you didn't keep the water moving it would freeze. Now that I think about it, that was crazy!  ???

Well, I washed mine (and also waxed it) in 42 degree weather this morning. Probably not the smartest thing to do since I've been suffered from a sinus infection, but the last 3 weekends it's either been raining, I've been sick or something else going on. I like a clean truck. And btw, just switched from Meguiars to Nufinish. I like the shine and how the water beads alot better.

A few years ago, I had a saturday morning all set aside for the big wash and wash and deatil job. Weather forecast on TV, Radio and internet was for no rain. SO as I washed, I watched the clouds get darker and darker. The wife comes out to tell me "It's going to rain". I continued on and as I finished waxing (as in putting it on), it started to drizzle, then pour.

Sometimes you just gotta wash and wax.

I washed my car last year in 20 degree weather.  I didn't think to much about it until I got started.  When I sprayed a section down, the water would freeze, so I just washed it the best I could.  My hands, face, and arms were numb.  Never thought about rain gear, pretty nice idea.  I was in a t-shirt and wind pants.

??What crazy people do for their cars and trucks??

I washed mine this morning. I don't know how cold it was but when I went out there my truck was so frosty it looked like a freezer shelf. The hard part was getting water to run through the hose so I could rinse the ice off. :)

I also wash in the rain .......  living here in western Washington you need to if you don't want to wait three months between wash jobs.

My wife thinks I'm nuts ........ I assured her that when they get my medication right I won't do it any more..... ;)

Yep I gave mine a quick washing today-it was in the low 40's but kind of windy.  My hand hurt from the cold for about 5 minutes then it went numb!  Actually I just wanted to clean the mud left over from deer season off the tires and wheelwells so I figure this will be the last hand washing it gets for a while since winter weather is coming.

There's a "touchless" car wash here where I live so I run it through there occasionally during the winter months.  This place can also spray out underneath vehicles so it's nice for removing road salt from the chassis.

Becareful of those places.  In the winter they filter their water and if their filtration system isnt good your truck will be getting sprayed with salt water

    • This is a really late reply but I just found this thread. They won't sell the hinges. I've gone 7 rounds with them. Their solution is to buy a new cover. I'm about to buy a new cover and it won't be a Bakflip. It also won't be from realtruck.com.
    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
