Header Questions

Someone please help me out here

 

1. What size header primary is commonly used on 5.3L Trucks/SUV's? 1 5/8, 1 1/2

or neither

2. Anybody have actual Dyno #'s that support that LT's make substantially more

power than shorties on a N/A set-up?

3. Are LT's legal in CA on late model Trucks/SUV's?

Long tubes will make more power than any shorty. PERIOD!! Do some searching on Tech youll see for yourself. Not alot of people will throw on a set of LT's then run right to the dyno. Its usually a bit more done at one time and then a trip to the rollers. YOu can get a SMOG legal set of headers from TOG and Thorley I believe. Im not terribly sure about Arizona Speeds. Im sending a set of Thorley Tir-Y's to JetHot within the next month to get coated. I bought an un-coated set form my dad just for that purpose. TOG's are great but they cost too much. Arizona Speed LT's are nice but the coatings suck ass. Ive seen a set of the ASM's after a few months and they dont look pretty. So far I have seen the JetHot coatings to be the best bet. My friend has a JetHotted set of Hooker headers on his T/A and over a year and a half they have held up the best I have seen. Anyway, Thorley makes a good set of inexpensive headers. Get them JetHotted in and out and youll have a dam nice set of headers that will last a long time.

 

ALSO, Dynatech makes a kick-arse system caled the SuperMax. Its their long tubes and y-pipe to match. It isnt cheap but it works very well. The Dynatech headers are availible seperate too.
