Quadrasteer

When Quadrasteer made its debut it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. But when people looked at the sticker and saw that the option cost $6000, they said, "For six grand I'll just make 3-point turns."

Well, when the '04's came out and I found out that the Q-streer option has dropped in price to under 2 grand, I said h**l yeah! Why hasn't GM touted that the price for that option has dropped? If the Q-steer was more popular, and had more of a demand, they would then upgrade it to handle the torque of the Duramax; a combination that would put some serious coin in GM's pockets. Look at all the snowbirds out there that haul their 5th wheels around, I'm sure they'd like to be able to pull thier trailers around like in the commercial. And the best part for GM - nobody else has a Q-steer type option.

I've got the Q-steer and love it! And the next truck is going to have that option on it, and hopefully they'll offer it with the D-max and Allison trans.

Yeah, I'm done ranting. Just my $0.02

Q-steer with the heavier loads is definitely a refinement.

But I would actually like to have seen the option go the other way too.....Down to the 1/2 tons. :D Think about how many soccer moms and occasional tow owners would benefit from the improved manueverability on the Suburbans and the Silverados. Then think about how many other people would benefit from not having to wait behind someone while they are doing a dozen 3-point turns when parking!

When I bought my Sub in March 04, I got everything I wanted and then some for that trim line. But had the Q-steer been available on the 1500, I would have gone for it. :D

i asked the dealer about it and they said they only sold 1 suburban and 1 pick up with it a year, they dropped the price after they reclaimed some r&d profit with it also. and hell yeah i want it, just heard rear end needs alignment also and a lot, i dont think the rear steering system could could pass the torque of a dmax or the 8.1 or it would already be an option on the 2500 suburbans.

I just love the Q-steer and can't understand GM's lack of marketing on this groundbreaking item. I'd really hate to see it disappear due to lack of interest when I buy a new truck in the next 4-5 years.

Jeez, I should be running their marketing program: Crew cab SS's, and some real power in the SS's - like the C-6 6 liter engine from the Vette, Allison transmissions across the board, Duaramax's in the Suburbans, etc.

Need I say more?

Correction, QSteer was first used exclusivly on the 2002 Sierra Denali.

As for strength, the QSteer uses a Dana 60, with Detroit Trac-Loc limited slip, very tough rearend. It will handle pretty much anything. The "Steering" parts have nothing to do with power delivery, but are still built very strong. My buddy runs 12.7's with his QSteer 03 Sierra Denali

I was very disappointed when GMC made the '05 Sierra Denali a crewcab-shortbed and dropped the quadrasteer. I test drove an '03 SD a year ago and decided that my next truck would have it. I had to buy an '04 to get the truck I wanted rather than wait until next spring. Quadrasteer is a great product, but GM hasn't been able to build any demand for it except for a small audience of enthusiasts and folks who tow. I don't think qsteer is standard on any GM product now and aside from the previous SD, I've never seen a dealer stocked truck with qsteer. I suspect it may go away in the next few years.

Today, I pulled into a parking lot and the only spot was immediately beside the entrance driveway. I made a quick 180 and pulled right into the spot with no reversing. Heck, I don't know if I could have done that trick with my CTS.

It's funny this topic just came up. I was driving home this past weekend from North Carolina through the West Virginia Turnpike when I came up on a Silverado that at first looked like a dualie. I then noticed a single wheel and the wheel wells weren't quite big enough to be a true dualie. I pulled up along side of it and saw the "LT Quadrasteer" badge at the rear of the cab. That's the very first time since the launch of the QS that I've actually seen it on the road. I called my cousin who worked at a Pontiac/GMC dealership for a little over a year and he told me they never stocked a QS-optioned truck nor did they ever even sell one. The Quadrasteer concept is a good one but I think it's going away over the next couple years for a few reasons:

1.) Piss-poor marketing from GM.

2.) Buyers scared of alignment issues in the rearend despite there being any facts to back those fears up.

3.) Those bulging fenders don't make for an especially good looking truck IMO.

I like the buldging fenders look, I like the option. I do not like the look of the truck I have to buy to get it. It is my belief that poor marketing could be the reason for the downfall, I saw a bunch of commercials when it forst came out then nothing since. This is a great option, it should be rethought.

I don't mind the flared out fenders,I think they give the truck a tougher look (I would add the factory flares to the front fenders myself if I bought one to help "even out" the look)

Its those d#@n ugly cab lights! WHY!! I don't mind the lights on the sides of the fenders and on the back under the tailgate but not on the cab. I know it has to do with laws because of the width of the rear axle but c'mon,They look stupid on anything other than a dually. Just my .02 cents.

I've actually seen quite a few quadrasteer trucks.

Maybe the dealer here was really pushing them or something.

I've seen several Sierra Denali's and 03+ Chevy 1500's.

I'm not a big fan of the bulging fenders and cab lights. I would be a lot more interested if the next gen trucks had redesigned frames to accommodate a narrower QS rear.

GM has really dropped the marketing ball on QS. The system is fantastic. I spoke with the Delphi engineers many times before I looked for my truck. The system can handle the 8.1 or DMax; I would have bought this set up in a heart beat.

It's also designed for 200K miles longevity. I've got 30K on mine and have had no alignment issues with the rear end. I've had problems with the front end though.

There were some very astute dealers out there who did their research, educated their sales force, ordered as many QS's as possible, then traded for more. These guys couldn't keep them on the lots and had waiting lists.

I don't think I could ever own another truck without QS.

I believe the government requires the clearance and fender lights on all vehicles that exceed 80" in width. I think I read somewhere that GM made the decision to widen the truck to accomodate qsteer rather than make the bed narrower between the wheelwells.
