Power Steering Fluid

My power steering fluid is a little low and I want to top it off. I have some Valvoline Synthetic Power Steering Fluid. Is this OK or does it have to be the GM stuff?

I found the answer, folks. On www.gmgoodwrench.com. Valvoline SynPower Power Steering Fluid is OK. It matches GM p/n 1050017 which is GM power steering fluid 1 qt. bottle. I'm off to top off my PS fluid. :chevy:

I flushed out my power steering system before my second winter, and refilled with the GM GoodWrench semi-synthetic PS fluid. I noticed a big difference in temps below -30 C / -22 F, the steering response was much quicker and smoother.

I posted a long and detailed procedure, copied partly from the shop manual and partly from what works best for a person without special service tools, awhile back on how to flush out your power steering system.

I'm not sure if cold weather is a problem where you live, unless we suddenly hit another Ice Age. Though the synthetic fluid may handle your high temps better.
