I've never purchased from a dealer - I bought my car with cash, so I've never been interested to learn how this all works. I'm still just a kid LOL.

So lets say GMC Dealer X has the truck I want for 32k

They offer ? off MSRP gbecause they are clearing out 2001's

So how cheap can I get this ?,000 truck for?

What it cost the dealer + 50? Or less?

I really don't want to spend more than ?,000

Go to KBB.com or Edmunds.com, and find out the invoice (dealer cost) of the truck).    You can also find any rebates etc...

It is reasonable to pay 300-500 dollars over invoice, and then subtract all rebates to get your final cost.  Don't forget there will be a bunch of sales-tax, title etc.. to add on.

in my area (omaha) they will knock off 5k on about any 2001, even the new desiels. i looked at trucks between 27k and 42k msrp and they knocked off 5k even on the 27k truck

Hard to say not knowing all specs on the truck, but knowing what you're looking for (1/2 ton, 2WD, Xcab) you should be able to get it from ?K down to ?K.

Most important thing to remember is as soon as you walk on the lot, you're the boss.  If they won't give you the deal you want on the truck you want, walk.  There are tons of lots out there-
