Transmission Slipped - First Time

Recommended Posts

I bought an 02 Tahoe last year with 24,000mi. It's got 40,000 on it now. Today when I was starting slowly from a stoplight, the transmission slipped for a second and then jerked itself into first gear. It may have tried to start off in second gear but I really couldn't tell. I've done some research on this forum and found that some other people have had the same problem, so for now I am not going to worry about it and hope that it does not happen again. It's just bugging the hell out of me. Does anyone know if how much the dealer would charge to flash the system now that it is not under warranty? Is that something I should do or should I wait to see if it happens again? One other thing, the only maintenance I've done is regular oil changes every 5k with Mobile 1. Now that it's got 40k, what other maintenance should I do?

I'd appreciate any and all feedback

thanks,

Dave

The same thing has happened to me a few times. Don't know what is causeing it for sure...will have to find a good mechanic (no dealers ever again for me) to check it out along with my tranny someday.

My HD was doing that at a pretty regular basis (enough that the service mgr had it happen to him). They reflashed/updated the computer and all has been well for the past 2 years. You'd have to call the dealer for a price, because mine was covered under warranty.

as far as maintenance goes, i would do the following:

change the fuel filter (every 30K)

change the trans fluid (I do mine every 30K)

flush the brake lines (every 30K)

make sure you lube the zerks with your next oil change

Thanks for the info. I am going to do those recommended maintenance items. I wonder if the computer got thrown off by me getting new tires. I just got rid of the OEM Firestone Wildercraps and got the Dueler Revos. They're NIICE! :ughdance:

thanks

Dave
