Intakes..... Which one?

I was saving my sheckles for a Vara-ram and since that didn't really pan out as I had hoped I need to change my focus. I was looking at the Volant and FIPK and I think I like the Volant better? I need to match my intake up with my exhaust to get the flow going. What do you have and how do you like it?

I have the FIPK and I'm very happy with it, but the new, redesigned Volant has really caught my attention also. From what I've heard it' not as loud as the FIPK, and it's definitely clean looking. I think that the peformance between the two is pretty even, especially since Volant recently redesigned their's by moving the MAF closer to the velocity stack and installing a slightly larger filter.

Are they still selling the older version?  how would a person know if they are getting the improved version?

I'm not sure if the part #'s changed, you might want to contact Volant...there's probably contact info on their website. I wouldn't doubt if there's still some of the older ones floating around out there that people are trying to move. From what I hear, the older versions actually lost power because the velocity stack was located so far away from the MAF that it made the air going through it turbulent which interrupted the MAF signal.

I'm really not sure, that looks like the one from the article that I read, but I'm not sure if it looks any different than the older ones when the cover's on. I think that all of the changes were made in the air box, you'd have to remove the top cover to see them. (bigger filter and velocity stack located 2 inches closer to maf sensor...the velocity stack bolts right to the inside of the box, just like the FIPK, I'm assuming that there used to be more tube between the stack and the MAF)

sxmax,That looks just like the one I have had for a couple of years. So like budhayes3 said if it is the new one the difference must be inside the box itself.

According to your sig it looks like you will be needing part #15053 the Old part #15853 and this is of course for the VOLANT. Hope that helps you out some. I too am looking to get a new VOLANT as well. :chevy:

I always look and never post on this particular board but I found something on the SS board posted by a raking member that may be of some interest.

I have been looking hard at Intakes for close to a 6 months now(yeah, I know I am a research nerd), This thread really concludes what I have found from other non-gm (Ford) about the Volant kit, especially their old versions. Unfortunately it strengthens my gut feeling that the old Volant actually LOST or gained minimal HP (the one I have, of course :seeya: ).

http://fordtruckworld.tenmagazines.com/ten...sp?sid=2&aid=36

I thought it just made it louder. Be sure if you do get a Volant have someone test the NEW version! A mag article exposed the Volant systems (old employee saying no testing only fitting maybe?) and from there they have been trying to change their image (example, website is looking nice, redesign the same kit they were exposed on for losing HP, etc.)

My stomach is turning as I type. I also found a thread were someone said that Volant would allow a trade in of the old kit for the new, but I can't find it? anyone alse been following something similar? :dupe:

I finally got a response from volant today. For those interested, i got them to cough up a new intake for $125.00 with a trade in of the old one. That was more cash than I wanted to spend, but i have had my intake since July. I still feel raped for some reason. Lets just hope that new intake makes a difference or else I will really be upset. Their tech said more than double the hp what the old intake made, which if it was 1 hp or negative, isnt alot.

We will see.

ARGH!!!!!!

Anyone else have experience on this?

I put the K&N FIPK Gen II on and seems to work great with a nice throaty sound. It came with a copy of their dyno sheet that showed the 6.0L to gain 13.8 HP and I forget how much torque. Anyone else actually dyno before and after? Does Volant have a b/a dyno record?

you should spend your money on a super chips programer. or headers.unless you make the throttle body bore larger you wont get any more air in .. thatis only my opinion

Do you have a dyno graph? Just wondering if it increased power throughout the curve. I know with some exhausts, you'll lose power in the low end but gain in the high. Wanted to know the same with K&N.

Thanks,

    • You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.
    • You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
    • Diesel hit $6.00 here today at the truck stop.   Payed $2.79 for E85 today too.
    • Thanks for posting, I'm sure it will help someone
    • New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?
