Front door speaker grille

Last night, by a fluke, i pointed my Streamlight at the pass. side front speaker grille. To my shock, the tweeter speaker is simply dangling by the wires, completely out of the mounting hole and off the positioning studs. One may not easily see this in daylight conditions. Looked at the Driver side--yep, same thing. The radio works fine, but we cannot have the tweeters dangling by the wires. Any ideas to easily remove the preforated grille that covers the door mounted speakers? Oh, and please don't say i need GM special part number 234557 whatever to do it...

help...

The only way to remove the grill is from the back ... which of course means removing the door panel. Don't sweat it though, this is simple. Let's see if I can remember everything ...

- Remove the "sail panel" (I think that's what it's called) ... it's the triangle shaped piece in the front corner of the window. It has metal tabs that hold it in so just slowly pry it off with a long screwdriver.

- There are two screws as I recall ... one behind the little trim piece around the door handle (this is easily removed also) and one ... hmmm, I can't remember ... You should find it, but maybe someone else can help since I can't go take a look at it myself right now.

- If you have power window / locks or heated seats with the 2 position memory then you'll need to pop that panel off and unplug the wiring harnesses from it.

- To remove the panel pull up (it'll come up about an inch or so) and then out ... but BE CAREFUL as you'll most likely have several wire harnesses you'll have to unplug (for the little courtesy light at the bottom of the door and to the speakers).

Its pretty simple despite all the crap I typed. If you'd like I can scan the directions (with pictures) I received from Crutchfield from my last purchase. :) And if anyone else has an addition / clarification / correction ... please feel free. :seeya:

PS - I've just noticed a rattle in my driver's side door the past week. It doesn't go away when I put pressure against the door so I assumed it was something inside the door ... maybe my tweeter came loose too! Man, it'd be nice it that was all it is ... drives me nuts! :dupe:

This is apparently a common occurance...same thing happened to me. Its an easy fix. Pop the door panel off unplug and take out the tweeter, drill out the two holes a little, and put a couple screws in to hold it to the panel. Here are some instructions on removing the panel (ignore the part about the mirrors): :dupe:

Excellent instructions on how to fix the problem. It took me no more than 30 minutes to fix my tweeter that was loose inside the grille portion of the door.

Thanks all!
