Loose Steering Wheel?

Recommended Posts

The steering wheel has some play on my 89 C1500. It seems to be in the column and the wheel moves ~2" vertical and ~1.5" horiz. I searched for topics and only found one Here . 99-2door and topo4u2 described what it is, but how do I get at the bolts to tighten them, I have tried before, but it got loose again soon after.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Let me guess..TILT column right?

If it is you will have to dis-assemble it part way,Steering wheel, lock plate, turn signal switch, and the tilt tension spring....a repair manual could could come in quite handy here if you've never done one before....then there are 3(or 4 I can't remember exactly) bolts with torx heads that need to be tightened...I used to pull them out and put LOCK-TIGHT on them and re-install them AT A TIME (a magnet came in handy in case I dropped 1 :seeya: )

I did this without removing the column from the vehicle....GOOD LUCK

You're right, it is a tilt column.

I'll try this when there's a few days where the truck won't be needed.

The same thing has been happening with my car, so if this works you'll have helped on 2 vehicles.

Thanks
