Avalanche 2500 only comes w/ body molding??

Why can you not delete the body plastic if you order a 2500 Avalanche. A couple of the salesmen at two dealerships never mentioned that and at the third he knew it but the owner of the dealership didn't. I would be interested in selling my 03 2500HD Silverado for the Av but I HATE that plastic. Does anyone know why?

I didn't know that either so I just went to the GM site and found out that you are right, you can only delete the body cladding on the 1500.

I agree with ya, I hate the plastic cladding too and I don't know why that would be they are the same bodies.

To do the delete they change the fenders and quarters to give it the pick up type of body line around the wheels. The only other thing that is different that I could think of would be the suspension and maybe the travel or mounting conflicts with those panels.

In defense of the cladding, after two years and 70K miles, my Avalanche didn't have a single door ding when I traded it in. It also makes for less you have to wax. However, the older cladding plastic tended to fade and always look dirty. Supposedly they use different plastic now.

The only problem with that is you have to wax around it. If you get it on then it sucks to get off. I actually found the smooth plastic for around the wheel opennings on my HD and had them painted body color since they came in black with the Arrival Blue paint. I think it just looks cleaner. I have noticed that alot of the cladding on many that I see looks light grey. I thought maybe there was two colors.

The newer cladding, 04 and newer is darker, almost black, and supposidly doesn't fade. I think Chevy dropped the cladding delete on the 2500's because no one was ordering it. 75% of all Avalanches are sold with the cladding, it is what makes the truck unique!

Auctually the 03 and newer got the darker cladding. And the 2500 always had the cladding. And I agree, the cladding really makes the Avalache unique!

I have always thought that the cladding looks cheesy.  It is supposed to be a truck, trucks are made of metal, not plastic.

You'd be surprised how much plastic is used these days. The Dually 3500 rear fenders are plastic, that's not a truck?????

Everyone has the right to there own likes and dislikes! Some like it and some don't, and that's the way it should be, if we all liked the exact same things, it would be a very boring world!

Good point about the wax. Another reason to use Zaino - no wax residue on plastic and rubber pieces.

I forgot about that. I started using that at the Firehawk shows when I had mine. Everyone was using that stuff. I still have a bunch I use on the cars but nothing has the plastic on right now so I didn't notice. Thanks.

It seems like the board is divided on the plastic. Some like it some don't. No big deal. As long as it's a Chevy it's got clout in my book.
