Fuel Pump anyone??

my fuel pump hasn't given me any reason to think it's damaged......except for the sound of it. That whistle noise. 99 silverado (new body). I don't think it will be too long before I need to replace it though. It'll be the next thing to go I can tell.

I guess my question is is it an easy process, or is it a dealership thing? or something in the middle?

of course any input is greatly appreciated.

yall take care

Something in the middle.

Quick pointer...Don't drop the tank to get at it.

Take the bed off. It's like 6 bolts, gas filler neck, and the tail lights. LOTS easier than dropping the tank, in my opinion.

But, if your fuel pump is whining, that doesn't really mean it needs to be replaced. Mine has been whining (on the 02 anyway) since I bought the truck. It's getting close to 70k miles now.

I agree with the last poster. I have over 135 K on my silverado. It has made a whining noise especially when its real cold for a few years now. I haven't had any problems (knock on wood) with it. My dad had to put one in his '95 Chevy 4X4 and it was big bucks. Like 3 or 4 hundred bucks just for the pump.

I did recently have to replace my evap solenoid which is right near the gas tank. I did drop the tank. It wasn't to bad of a job. I would recommend getting as much gas out of it before starting. Dropping the tank wasn't the tough part. The tough part was getting the filler tube connected back up. Its like a 2" radiator hose with a smaller (but a foot longer) maybe 1 1/2" inside of it.

To make a long story short...Don't fix what's not broken.......

alright thanks yall. the reason i think my pump's going to die is because the whining noise gets worse and worse, and sometimes I think I can feel something when I accelerate. I have almost 150k on it, and I bought it at 75k, and I believe the first owner never replaced the fuel filter. so i realize the pump is already damaged. i have already started saving up for it. i also have to drive from Austin to northern New Mexico later this week, the good Lord willing. . .

Thanks again for the input guys.
