Alignment

Friday i took my truck in for an alignment

The toe was the worst.  It was WAY off.  The truck has pulled to the right for awhile now and this was due to the left side alignment being more off than the right side.

The truck sucked driving in the wind.  Well i went through a pretty nasty storm (windy) yesterday.  Couldnt even tell it was windy usually the truck drifts with the wind.

Overall it was well worth it.  I dont think the torsion bar cranking had thrown it off much.

Only thing i didnt like was the price tag.  I thought i lost my jaw (hit the floor)

Just curious, I was quoted ? locally for an alignment and was told they'd need the truck for about 4 hours, even with an appointment.  How does that compare, because I too was shocked by that?

Mine was ? (after tax)

Took about an hr and a half.

Wonder what the tire place would have been.  I was figuring about ? when i was hit with ? it was like i was hit with a baseball bat.  Thats how much of a shock it was

But i can say it has helped tremendously and was worth the money

?-? is what I was hoping! Told me 4 hours and ? because 4WD takes longer.  This was at an alignment shop, maybe I'll keep shopping-

I had mine done at my chevy service dept.

Id rather have them do it instead of some guy who was just hired at the tire place

I knew it was gonna be done good

I went an had my alignment done at the chevy dealer as well and it cost me like ? plus tax took about 2 hours or so.

My 4wd alignment costs ? at my local alignment shop, but that's for the old recirculating ball setup they had on them in '92.  Your 99-up half tons have rack & pinion steering and I don't know what that involves.  From what I have seen, though, it actually looks a little simpler to align.  But what do I know?

Anything at the Chevy house will cost more.  My local independent guys use the old machines that align the fronts with projectors that mount to the wheels and align them independent of the rest of the pickup.  This came in handy when I had my old '89 that had a slightly bent frame rail under the cab.  The guys at Midas couldn't perform their 4-wheel whole-vehicle computer alignment on it b/c the frame wasn't square.

Had mine also done at Chevy for ?, mine was also pulling to the right, they didn't fix it. Today I have the truck back in to get it corrected with the ride problems I'm having......hopefully

Hey RyanbabZ71,

Just because it's a chevy service dept doesn't mean much. My dad started an automotive machine shop in town 20+ years ago and I got to know a lot of the mechanics and service departments. There's no way I would buy or take a vehicle to the local Chevy dealer.

I just had mine done at Sear's.  ?.00 I think.  Watched the guy do it.  Had the latest greatest computerized laser alignment machine and everything. Ryan, I'm afraid that you got ripped.

Like someone else said, just cause its a chevy dealership doesn't mean that they know what they are doing...our dealership is known for being terrible.

Ryan,

I think Chevy's management used my survey to wipe their @$$. Somehow I just didn't get a feeling of satisfaction from filling it out and sending it in. Waste of a stamp. My dealership keeps getting worse, not better. I love my AV with all my heart, but its a pity Chevy makes 'em.

99 and up 4wd have recirc-ball steering only the 2wd got the fancy rack and pinion setup.

Mine was @ ?.  Don't know exactly how long it took because I dropped it off and went to work, but when I scheduled it, they said it would be @ 1.5 - 2 hrs.  It was a tire shop, and the alignment has held pretty well.
