Help, my wipers are stuck!

Have a 1990 Silverado that I bought new. Of course I love it and it's a testament to what a great truck it has been that this is one of the biggest problems it has had so far. My wipers will not turn off by themselves all the time. Sometimes they will but don't always "park" themselves in the proper spot. Any ideas? Thank you from a first time poster and a long time Chevy lover.

Do you have intermittant(pulse) wipers on the truck? The wiper module may have gone bad. It's mounted to the wiper motor and costs about $40 for the module......just a thought.

I agree with citydriver. The same thing occured on my 97 Blazer. I replaced the wiper controller circuit board located on the motor. A simple fix.

Yes, I do, or I should say, I used to have intermittant wipers. Thanks for the response. I will post the results. Thanks again for your help.

Alright, try this one. Sometimes my wipers would just turn off. The switch was on but they would park and stay. Sometimes I could tug on them and they would work. Looked into it and the motor was getting power so i figured it was the motor or the board. Replaced em both. Wipers worked. My truck sat a couple of weeks. When I came back the wipers didn't work at all! So then I replaced the switch. That is spendy, $380.00!! Don't replace it unless you have to. Still didn't work. Took the new motor back and switched it out for another new one. Everything was fine. Then one morning (not raining) they won't turn off. They were stuck in the LOW position. I could turn them to HI but that was it. I pulled the fuse and put it back in but that didn't work either. I left it out until it rained again. Now they work fine again! What gives?

there may be a bad spot somewhere in the wiring harness. Mice love chewing on wiring

Yeah, I am sure it is not mice but I am thinking that it has to be in the wires between the switch harness and the motor. It isn't that long but man is it wrapped up good!

What are the chances that the board is bad? It sounds like they had a pretty good reputation for being bad.

Guys!

THe problem is a cracked solder joint around the 4 main pins on the cct board inside the wiper module.

Take it out and re-solder it. Literally 5 minute fix!

Don't waste your money on a new cct board as it will also fail.

He just put a new board in and a new motor and a new switch, then a new motor again.

Yeah, so where else would this four pin be. I have a solder gun. I will go do it right now. Hell, I've got a welder if that will help! Tell me what to do!

There is a national safety recall (bulletin#03023) on the wiper motor intermittant circuit board because of the bad solder joints that covers most GM trucks from '94-'97......

You may be able to get re-embersed for the circuit board, the safety recall only covers the board...check this link out NHTSA and enter your year /make and model into the RECALL SEARCH and it will list the recall...then ou can contact the dealer and see what theycan do for you....hope this helps
