I'm debating on whether I should buy some stake pocket covers for my black 1998 Z71. Actually they would be the hide a hook type. Any opinions on these type of gadgets? I've seen the hide a hooks by Penda, and to be honest, they look kind of cheap. What are the chances of the springs failing that releases the hook? I'm not impressed with the size of the hook either.

If I do decide to go with these what style should I get?

1. black

2. stainless steel

Keep in mind that my black silverado is the old body style with chrome bumpers and that chrome molding strip that goes along side the wheel well.

Here's another potential problem that no one can answer until I actually buy the thing: I have a line-x spray in liner which is sprayed into the stake pocket and the lip of the stake pocket. What are the chances of the hide a hook not fitting because the line-x made the opening of the pocket too small? Some people say that I might have to file the liner down so that the hook will fit.

I was thinking that I could easily make something similar that I could just put into the stake pocket when needed. I could take some wood and paint it black , screw a hook into it and there we have it.

I have the Hide A Hook brand in chrome and I think they look good. I went with chrome because the SD has chrome accents instead of black. They have done a good job at keeping the rain out. I had Line-X applied before I had the hooks and Truxedo installed and they didn't have any problem from what I saw. The only problem was the plastic bedrails on the SD made the Truxedo tight.
