I'll second Sin's comments. He was on when I was young too, and my friend and I made it a point to watch him if we were staying over each other's houses. To be able to keep the interest of 2 teens amid action and adventure shows definitely says something.

He was indeed the King of Late Night, and he will be missed. I can imagine St. Peter by the Pearly Gates, with loudspeaker in hand, saying...

 

"Heeeeeeeeeer's Johnny!" (cue entrance music from Doc Severinsen & the Tonight Show Band)

One of my fondest memories growing up was when I would spend the night at my Grandparents house. My Grandfather would let me stay up late and we would have a bowl of ice cream while watching Johnny Carson.

Yep, that is the same memory I have. I was pretty young when he went off the air, but I got to watch some of the shows during his last few years, especially when spending the night at the Grandparents house. Even though I was young, it was easy to see just how good he really was.
