Tonneau cover

I need to buy a Tonneau cover. Problem is living in Cleveland if I get a soft cover like Extang Black Max (I've owned two) and need to use during winter months, I'll never be able to get it back on due to shrinking so quickly. I was looking into a Pace edwards jack rabbit but from reading on this site I will get water inside the bed or it can freeze shut. I am not interest in a hard or hinged cover because I do use the bed alot. Maybe I am looking for the perfect cover that does not exist? Can anybody offer any insight? Thanks.

www.peragon.com? I ordered one but have not received it yet so I do not really know if it is good or not. But for the price I hope its good!

HDGMC, look at the Full-Tilt. If you have a place to keep it, you can remove the tarp still attached to the frame. I have one, it looks good, installs easy, and can be removed as a unit in about 1 minute. Or you can un-snap it and roll it against the cab, then remove the bows. The tailgate rail comes out easy after loosening the screws.

If you're just worried about access to the bed, and not hauling items higher than the rails, that's probably the cover you want. I got mine from www.accessconnect.com, about $310 from there, with free shipping in the lower 48.

I've had mine for a year, I've rolled the cover up no more than 10 times to haul cargo, and have taken it totally off many times for cleaning and such. I installed it in an un-heated garage in single-digit or sub-zero outside temps. Installation was easy, might take one person an hour, if that. Frame construction is solid, the tarp holds up well, even when going through the touch-free car wash that uses a VERY strong blower to dry the vehicle. I don't think it's stretched any.

The pro's - three leaf design, all aluminum construction, can load up to 1200lbs on top of the cover, etc.

The con's - The price

Little pricey but not really when comparing a color keyed fiber. I like the leaf design from the standpoint that if I need to haul anything higher than the bed rail, I can just pull the rear leaf and go. Being all aluminum makes it light enough for one person to manage.

My two cents anyway,

How is the Peragon cover coming along? I want a cover, but have read the bad reviews of the jack-rabbit, and dont want a hard cover that you would need to remove to use bed. Peragon looks nice, but havnt seen much in the way of reviews. And I dont like the fact that they dont have dealers, you have to order directly through them. But I do like the fact the Peragon can be removed, and there is no canister, but theres about a $500 price differenced between Jack-rabbit and Peragon. Any others to look at before deciding. I looked at the trifold diamond plate that can hold 1200 lbs, but that is also pretty pricey. Thanks.

I haven't received my Peragon cover yet. When I ordered they had a 1 month backorder so hopefully it will ship this week.

there might as well be a canister, that small rail is about 10"s away from the front of the bed. I am looking for the same thing but cant have that crap in the way. I am hauling my motorcycle and that barely fits lenth wise. i hate the sanps in the winter time, they are a pain in the cold no matter what.

I installed the Peragon yesterday. It took about 2 hours. It seems to work ok but it is a little difficult to open and close. Tha manual said it would be this way for a few weeks while the gas charged shocks break in. There is no binding because it flows easily without the gas shocks attached. It makes a nice seal with the top of tailgate. I guess I will add a lock to the tailgate in a few months.

It looks real nice, better than their pictures on their website.

How heavy are those things? How water tight are they?

Their light enough for one person to handle. The long boxes are a little harder to handle for those short of stature due to their length.

The only place water gets in on mine is at the side seams of the tailgate, and diamondback warned me of that. Simple fix if I'd get off my lazy @$$ and buy som weather stripping.

With the Full-Tilt, you have 2 options for removal. You could either un-snap the cover and roll it up or, if you have a place to keep it, un-do the struts and lift the frame and tarp off without unsnapping the tarp. It's very slick. Of course, you'd have to plan ahead so you can store it at home before leaving. I've had mine unsnapped in about 40° F weather. Re-snapping it wasn't terribly difficult, I have my snaps on the "loose" setting all the time, but could put them on tight for the summer.

I've had mine for just over a year now. It's holding up well so far, but only time will tell. It seals well also, I go through a touch-free car wash (that's some HIGH pressure water) and I get some decent water on the inside of the tailgate but it's limited to JUST the tailgte and maybe a couple trickles in the front corners, but that's it. In rain, I get nothing.
