How do I install subs/amp with stock head unit?

I've got two Coustic 12" subs and an old American Bass 500 watt amp waiting to be installed in my truck. How do I hook them up to the stock head unit?

Get yourself a LOC (line output converter) and splice into the rear speakers wires. The Loc will have a gain adjustment on it and will have a set of RCA outputs that you can connect to your amp

The LOC is about $20 at most audio stores.

Hummm, not so fast. Is that true for the Bose sound system too? The stereo is normally the first thing to go in my new trucks (and cars) but my 04 came with the Bose system. It is ok. A little weak on power when listing to GNR or Angus but not too bad. I would like to add a little base myself but didn't think I could tap off of the Bose rear speakers?

Thanks,

No, it's not true for the Bose system.

But he didn't specify that he had Bose either.

Most ( I do mean Most ) Bose systems use an amp for each speaker usually located at or near the speaker they power. The signal from the deck to the amps is whats concidered a true low level, not quite line level that most amps want. You could however jump onto the wires leading from the amp to the speaker with a line level adapter like someone else mentioned. My wife had an Infiniti Q45 that had a Bose system and I ended up yanking it all. Also bose, like alll manufacture, use the cheapest parts they can buy at the time. Bose car amps are notorious for havin capacitors that leak down over time and will start squiling after a fews years. My advice ( based on years installing and competing professionally) yank that crap out. Put in an Alpine head unit and then what ever flavors you like from there. With audio all good things start at the begining and if you head unit is crap you only amplifiy crap. just my $.02
