Weird windshield noise at speed....

Anyone else get this, I have a 99 NBS Z71, and while cruising at about 55 or above, the windshield makes a weird sound, like its raining outside. The faster I go, the more intense it is. My buddy told me that other friends of ours that have NBS trucks all do this. Someone even has a new HD and it makes the same strange sound. It doesn't really bother me, since I usually have the radio up anyways, but when I'm driving with people it makes me wonder what the hell is causing it.

yeah it's the bug shield deflecting the air up to the rubber around the windshield, making it flap. I think you can get some sort of sealant and keep it from doing that.....I don't know the exact procedure for the fix though....I'm sure someone does.

Do you have those little rubber flap thingies for the hood hinges? My '03 has them although I haven't had any noise issues. I've wondered if they could get to floppin' at highway speeds. Slap a piece of masking tape on both of them and see if the noise goes away.

Another thought was to have a friend help you by blasting a leaf blower in different areas of the front end and windshield to help you find where it's coming from.

It might be something in the cowl area too. Try turning on the recirc air when it does it next time.

Hello, I can actually help you out here :D ...it is your shield..sort of. The wind hits the molding that holds helps your windshield...and as stated by tmf6902 makes the noise. Now, do not seal anything, not needed and will only make it a problem if you need the windshield replaced. If you open your doors you will see black pieces of plastic the run down towards the hood...it appears they are 2-piece and screwed in...the junction between these rubs and that is the noise you hear, kind of a tapping sound, right, at higher speeds?? A dealer can replace these with ones that are thicker and can take the redirected wind from your bug shield...you will not hear it any longer...I had this done, it works. Not sure how much because it was warranty (I think the parts are ~50 bucks or so)...Chevy knows about it and they can replace those plastic moldings (Note: these are not the ones on the outside that hold the glass down, these are the ones that you see if you open your doors and look under the weatherstripping) I will check in the morning and correct myself about the exact way to locate them...it is 9 degrees here now :D ....Some people use tape and what not but I am not sure about that fix..I know this works...hope this helps. :D:chevy:

Had one on my last truck, I think it did nothing except increase wind noise. Even though GM now sells them as aftermaket accessories, I read somwhere (owners manual?) where they advised not to install them. There is no deflector on my truck and no stone damage either. Seems like when a stone gets kicked up by someone in front of you it always hits the windshield :chevy:
