Shorty Headers question?

Recommended Posts

What is the best bang for the buck, quality, and cost shorty headers for 5.3L Suburban? Coming out from California, any recommends?

Also, what output HP real figures, does it put out? Is there a torque and power difference?

one of my instrucctors in high school had an o2 tahoe with a 5.3 and he went with the gibson shorties and said they helped by probably 4-5 horsepower on the ground and they were only about 350$

i have the gibson headers and cat back.they say like 30 hp and 50 lbs torque . i dont think so but .it made my truck quicker off the line and faster. it made it feel like it did before i lifted it and put on the big tires. headers are always the best bang for the buck.

From my research, shorty headers are not really worth it. Take a look at the mid-long tube headers. If california emmissions are of concern, (looks like it is) then look at the company "The Other Guys" They make a mid tube carb leagal header. Supposedly very good power increases.

I have Edelbrock shorty headers on my truck. As the Gibson system, it advertised 30 HP gains, but I would say 5-10 HP is closer. I do feel a difference. I have had thm for more than a year now and have only had to re-torque them once. They seem to be good quality.

I had Gibson shorty headers on my 99 Tahoe. When I took

them off 2 years later to trade in, they looked like crap. To be honest though,

I never had them coated. When I put the stock manifolds back on, stock intake(had an Airaid) and put the tuning back to stock(had Hypertech in there), I noticed absolutely no loss in performance.

Three mods right there that I would never do again on a car/truck. IF I do

headers on this truck, they will be at least mid length, probably The Other Guys headers.

when I get the money and time, I'm going w/ doug thorley tri-y full length headers. They are ca smog legal, and are as cheap as all the shorty headers out there. I have also fallen in love w/ the jba evo cat back, just need to sell a kidney and lung to afford all this crap. :loser:

Got the Edelbrock shorties ceramic coated ones. I'd say that added at least 10hp. Get up and go is much more fun now. Although I dont think it helped out my gas mileage:(
