Any idea when the L33 will be avail in crew cab??

Recommended Posts

Just trying to decide between ordering a 05 ex cab, or possible a 05 crew cab. I would prefer the crew cab, but on all the build sheets the only 5.3 engine listed is the LM7 (295hp).

I would really like to get the L33, and I assume that this engine will be standard soon, but does anyone have any speculation or first hand knowledge when the all aluminum engine will be available in something other that just the extended cab.

Any info would be great

ummmmm.......................anyone?  Wow, wud have thought someone wud have replied by now :(

I'll take a stab at it. Personally, I think the difference in motor design is minor compared to the utility and versatiity of the crew cab design, assuming one can live with the 5' 8" bed if purchasing that bed size, as opposed to the longer bed sized.

Heck, you got folks here pulling trailers with 4.8 liter motors and are perfectly happy. There just isn't enough power difference, in my opinion, between the two 5.3 motors. If the horsepower difference bugs you, heck, you can more than offset that with aftermarket accessories.

It all comes down to what you want in the overall purpose of the truck.

Gm Is just doing what all the other MFR's are doing. Offering a HP engine in the 1500. They already have the highest HP & Torque base engines. The Crew Cab is NOT a 1500 its based on the 2500 series. Since the Crewcab is available with the 6L it has another engine. :(

I thought the crew cab IS based on the 1500, and not the 2500.  The 1500 crew cab is the same wheelbase and platform as all other 1500's is it not?  I am talking strictly the 1500 1/2 ton crew, not the 1500HD crew.

You are correct. The Crew Cab is available platform-wide from the 1/2 ton (1500) all the way upwards.

The 1500 series Crew-Cab is based on the 1500 series ext.cab trucks,It even has the same wheelbase as the 1500 ext.cab short-bed trucks (143.5")

It is not based off of the 2500 series crew-cabs. It does not have anything in common with the 2500's as far as axles or weight ratings/towing capacity.
