Im looking to buy a cover for my truck i want one that retractable and of a good quality or if anyone has expericence with a access cover can you tell me how you like the cover.

I have a truxedo soft cover and it's great. This cover rolls back in a matter of seconds and has the cross bars built into the cover so they roll up with it. It has a latching mechanism so if you hava a tailgate lock it cannot be opened. However, someone could easily cut it to get whatever was in the bed. My thought was out of sight out of mind. I checked into the Pace roll & lock, but I'm too cheap and didn't want to spend that much for a cover.

To address your specific questions - With the exception of the tilt covers, most of them allow access to the truck bed. The hard rolling type, like my retrax and the Pace Edwards et. al. take up space at the front of the bed where the cover rolls into. About 9 to 12 inches. Less than a bed tool box but to much if your atv needs more than whats left. Most of the soft covers, folding or roll up, will provide maximum bed access with the cover open. The hard rollers and the hard lift type can be locked.

I did see a modest mileage increase with the cover, about 1.3 mpg hwy on a long trip versus without. Haven't really compared city or combined but I would expect the benefit to apply there also.
