Man is it so much nicer then my old zr2 tons of room but cant see how some of those car review mags like c&d and motor trend give the silvys interior low marks, ive tested all the fullsizes except the titan and think the silverado is nicer then all of them.

Anyways i have some questions

1.Should i perform the first oil change at around 500 miles or a 1,000?

2.Can i go to mobil 1 at the first change or wait till the second one

3.What weight oil should the 5.3 take

4.As far as mods i need to see what my dealer will allow because i paid a good amount for the extended warranty and to tell the truth im pretty impressed with the h.o. 5.3 but heard a custom tune is the best place to start.

5.Im thinking of going with line-x anyone here with line-x that regrets it?

6.Alarms and remote starters what do most people use here for brands and what did you pay ect ect.?

Go Mobil1 at 2000. Give you engine time to do some break in. I changed mine over and had some shavings from break in. Everthying is smooth now.

Hi there  , not sure what kind of alarm you want, but what you have is great if you read about it...no key = no fuel and alarm and flashing lights...if you have OnStar, they will track it with GPS (if the they can manage to get around all the other to begin with, which I know some can, but they could get around an aftermarket system just as easily...)... Remote start, I can help you with, Astrostart 803 is a great system, very highly recommended company (that is all they produce is remote starters). I use mine every day in MA...also my truck will start and run for 4 minutes if the inside cab temp is below 23 degrees F, wait 2.5 hours and repeat if nedded...very nice, this is adjustable for very low temps ,~-40 I think etc..., and also other time durations, during a typical cold night it will come on at most twice, ~8 minutes...I know I have monitored the engine hours/minutes to verify. By the time you park the night before, wait for the temp to drop to below 23 in the cab, this takes hours, so I figure it comes on around 2 in the morning and maybe again around 5 or so...then I hit in the morning and let it run....it is great, you can also hook up locks and heated seats but that costs extra. My truck has the 1-2 driver settings (maybe your does also), and they cannot reproduce that function so I just use the separate remote to start her up...range is very good also, I have actually started from 1000 feet away...so it is no BS, but of course it depends on where you are at as does any remote feature. Anyway, ~300 installed...get it and you will enjoy, later, :chevy::D:D

Personally, I quit subscribing to those magazines a long time ago. They are very biased towards two groups. Their advertisers and the imports. Their opinions are not "fair" to say the least.

Just last week on TV, C&D had a rag top shootout. The Vette was a clear winner in every catagory, but they chose the Porshe Boxter S because the Corvette is "too much of a car and too much power for a fun in the sun afternoon drive". What the F**K did this idiot just say??" was what I yelled at the TV.

For my quality type information, I look towards Consumer Reports and other sources that DON'T have advertisers paying their way.

Congrats on the new truck, they sure are nice!! :D

I'd go with a 1500 change the first time around. The 5.3 runs 5w30 as well...at least that's what I'm running up in Ohio. Some in warmer climates have gone 10w30.

Switched to Mobil1 at 1500, changed it again at 5000, and now every 5000 after that. No problems so far.

@biochemist - You mentioned the Driver 1 & 2 settings in your truck. Do they control and remember the seat settings, stereo presets (and last setting) and HVAC settings in your Silverado? We have an '03 Suburban where that is the case, but I just bought an '06 Silverado (LT trim - all the goodies), and there doesn't appear to be separate driver settings either through the key fob or the manual menu selection from the steering wheel controls. The dealer service tech said that it was a feature specific to the Tahoe's and Suburban's as they are "upscale" vehicles, but I find that hard to believe - the dash hardware is the same.

If anyone knows how to unlock the "secret" to get at the separate driver settings, I would be grateful.

Thanks

I am also planning on switching to Mobil 1 at my first oil change on my '06. From everything I've read they say to switch anytime after 500mi. or up to the first scheduled oil change. For best value I'd say wait till' the first scheduled change, but if you are antsy and have the $ go for it anytime after 500mi. Another point I read and you should also consider is that the longer you give the engine to break-in the more metal contaminants are removed prior to you filling with synthetic.

GM deleted the "Driver 1 & 2" setting features for the '05 model year.
