Truck stalled out today

Recommended Posts

Ok, I left work at noon today, drove for an hour to get to my apt, and dropped off the rent. I get back in my truck no more than five minutes later. The truck starts fine, I put it in reverse, and then it died. I put the truck back in park, started fine again, but still died in reverse. I tried it again, and it worked the third time. Does anyone know what might be causing this, and how to fix it? My truck is an '00 5.3L Z-71.

more than likely it is a fuel pump gone bad. normally happens about that fast too. i've had it to where it will have enough gas to start but as soon as any load is put on the engine, not enough pressure and it dies.

I thought that when a fuel pump goes out, it goes out completely. I didn't know there were any signs that it may be going out(other than it being loud). My truck has around 94K on it, btw.

I think your right about them usually just quiting totally, that is how an s-10 I had acted and a pump cured it. As far as signs, I,ve had two different Dodges (excuse the dirty language!) that would act like they were out of gas at about a quarter tank, fill them up and they ran fine on the top half. anyway, hope you get it fixed soon.

Thank you for the help, I will look into getting the pump replaced. It's probably a good idea anyway since the truck is approaching the 100K mark.
