Do holes in air box help?

I've heard that if you drill holes in the bottom of the air box it will help reduce the restriction of the factory air box. I think that you will be drawing in hot air from the engine compartment. Anybody out there done this?

I have done something but not exactly that. I have a 95' Z71 with a 350 TBI and I tried flipping the lid of the air filter cover upside down to see if there would be better performance but couldn't tell. Again, yes sucking in warm engine compartment air is not the greatest. By all means colder outside air would be the best thing. Just my 2 cents.

i tried flipping the lid too... notta lotta difference although it was the style of most open fliter engine dress-ups. I don't know how many baffles are inside the air boxes, if any... drilling through those would make sense but drilling the bottom.........dunno

When I had my 91 RCSB, I flipped the lid because it sounded cool. I didn't notince any difference, just my gas mileage got worse since I was always putting my foot into it to hear that intake noise.
