Figured this was the best spot to put this...

Anyways, I am thinking of ditching my truck and was considering getting a new one, but I am now throwing the GTO into the mix. I know someone on here has one, it is in their sig. Anyways, anyone have one and what do they think? Would definately go with the 6-speed, anyone had any problems with the car? Going to try and test drive one this weekend. Any feedback is appreciated.

I think the '05s are much nicer than the '04s. You do get a lot of bang for your buck, and it's a popular daily driver among corvette owners. However, I've been told that it is very skimpy on trunk space, if that's important for you. (It is for us.)

the new gto? why they look like a grand am. they arent even a real gto just get a grand am and save yourself the cash

Old GTOs where regular Pontiacs that, they dropped a giant motor into. How is this so different? I don't want a flashy car, expensive car, or a ricer car. GTO has lots of power (400hp/400ft-lbs) and isn't flashy so you are less likely to get a cops attention, plus it is less than most trucks. So by getting it vs. a truck I am already saving some money.

I am looking for some actual input, not some wise ass comments. Like I have a GTO, it is a POS because ______. Or I love my GTO because _____. I am a truck guy, but I just am a little put off with how much troubleI am having with my truck. So I am exploring some different angles to see if maybe I can find myself something better.

I'm not interested in replacing my truck with a GTO, but if I hadn't just bought two different vehicles in the last year I'd be seriously considering the GTO for the "car" side of my 2 car stable. :wtf:

Test drive the Cadillac CTS, too. I have an '04 with the 3.6 engine, auto, lux edition, and sports suspension. I bought it before the GTO was available, so I didn't compare the two. The CTS is a great garage-mate for my SD.

here is my impression:

I would have a GTO RIGHT NOW if insurace hadn't been so high for me on one(670 bucks A MONTH!!!!), but I'm glad anyway cause I found the Camaro instaead(at a whopping.54 buck a moth insured as a Classic!)....

Driving it back to back with my 1987 BMW, I notcied the GTO is, of course, MUCH mre powerful. it's more refined, more comfortable......but it wasn't nearly as fun. You'll get it to cruise and drag in, but it's a BIG, heavy car if your looking for something tossable. They are understated, and curretnly still not very numerous on the road, which was one of the thing that appealed me to it.

Thanks for the tip, will look at the Caddy, but Caddy and 24 years old aren't really a match to me.

SnakeEyes:

Ya, I am looking at insurance too, I am paying about $680/6months on my current truck. I think I will probably go with what is cheaper to insure, truck vs. car. What would you recommend for a new sporty car? I was looking at Audis, namely the S4 but the price tag + the new looks put me off of it. If there was something like a Camaro it be my first choice, I like the looks of the new Mustang, but not really a Ford guy. No Ford has ever been too good to my family in general.

There are a lot of young CTS owners. Check out www.cadillacforums.com and www.caddyedge.com . Some of them even, gasp, rice them out.

You guys know it's coming:

You might want to test drive some nice, certified pre-owned BMW 330Ci(two door model, engineered to be more sporty than the 4 door as an entire car). as a porsche guy at my work said referring to my and his car(a 928 V8) to another co worker "once you own one of these(German sports car), you just can't drive anything else!". yes, it says it has 225 HP, but anyone who's ever driven a German car know that a German horse seems to be stronger than other breeds, lol.

if you can find one with Premium package and Aport package combined for comfort and sport. and if your not going to wring it out one a twisty road, don't even bother test driving it. the 3 series(and the old pre 3-series "2002" sport sedan) has been the benchmark in their segment for the last 35 years for a reason.

other than that, you might want to check out the 350Z, or Audi TT coupe, in the GTOish price range.

The GTo has brute power compared to these cars, but my new, favorite quote addresses that, it's by Helmet Panke(BMW Auto Group CEO), a month agao in an interview about BMW's future cars:

""We will not abandon agility. You have to be in control of your car in all situations, not just leave some rubber marks at the stoplight on the road and your friend"

--Helmet Panke, Chairman, BMW AG

that's as far a new model line cars go.

the problem with todays gto's is that they just look like everything else on the lot. and they dont even resemble the real gto

^^Sure it doesn't resemble the original, but today's GTO still has some friggin' balls.

Fellas, fellas, fellas!!!

Don't kid yourself, the new GTO is bad A$$'s no doubt. Better than ANY GTO ever.

Case in point:

11 sec

That's 11's... don't remember to many GTO's running that....

Or better yet, I have never seen a GTO run 9's!!!

9 second build up

I'd love to bash them, but come on man.... These things are MOVING!!!
