keyless entry programming

I just got a used key fob off of ebay for my 99 Suburban. It came with instructions. I followed them. I was able to add its code just fine. Then I tried to add my old remote code back in. It wouldn't register. I tried several times, alternating before and after I do the new remote. Still no luck. So I swapped batteries in the remotes. Neither of the remotes would program. So I swapped them back, and still neither of them will work. What is happening? Any ideas? The procedure I was using was grounding pin #4 to #8 of the DLC, then holding the lock/unlock button until the locks cycle.

This worked for my 2001 Silverado 3500. First take off the jumper.

Keyless Entry Remote Transmitter Activation Procedure #470

IMPORTANT: Before entering programming mode, have in possession all of the transmitters you will be using on the vehicle. Once you program the transmitter, all previous codes will be erased from the memory. The other transmitters will not be functional until you program the transmitters again.

1. Close all vehicle doors.

2. Insert the key into the ignition.

3. Hold down the power UNLOCK button on the driver’s door panel – continue to hold down until instructed to release in step 9.

4. Perform steps 5 through 8 in fairly rapid succession.

5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (as far as you can go without starting the engine).

6. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

7. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

8. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

9. Release the power unlock button on the door panel. The vehicle will cycle the door locks (lock and unlock the doors automatically) to indicate that the vehicle is in programming mode. IMPORTANT: ALL transmitters must be programmed at this time. When a new transmitter is programmed, it will deactivate the old transmitters.

10. Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously until the door locks cycle (locks and unlocks). This step may take up to 30 seconds.

11. Repeat the previous step for each additional transmitter (including any existing transmitters).

12. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the transmitter programming mode.
