Which Muffler?

I am a new truck owner (first time for a full size silverado). I've noticed that many other trucks on the road, have a much throatier (if thats a word) sound to their exhaust. I'd like to increase my rumble, but not to the point that the neighbors eight houses down can hear it when I hit the gas. Are there any mufflers ( I don't want the entire exhaust) that anyone can recommend? I realize that horsepower gains may accompany the rumble, but I'm more focused on a little louder heavier sound.

Ah yes...the great muffler debate. I recently purchased a Magnaflow cat and muffler for my 94' 4.3L and I really dig the sound. The factors that determine how its gonna sound have a lot to do with what motor you have. I have a 4.3L V6, so the sound is great at idle and sounds pretty decent under heavy accleration. 4.8L and 5.3L V8s will sound fuller all around.

I'd go Magnaflow..IMO they are the best muffler on the market, without question.

Just my $.02

If you want a pretty loud exhaust note. Id have to recommend a 12" Borla XR1. But on the other hand the Magna muffs are good! All the Maganflow setups I listened to werent loud enough for me. Thus why I got an XR1.

I have the perfect solution. I went through great lenths to find the perfect muffler to please the wife and myself. After much searching amd research on sound and tones, Ive found the perfect tone for me on my 04 burb is a flomaster 70 series. Its the perfect compromise to sound and power. starts nice with a rumble and under power sounds awsome. stay away from the 40 series (met people who had it then had it removed, kids in back were ready to barf from the 60mph drone) as to the 50series, you could go there , but if your married with young kids and do allot of highway travel , its still too loud. I know all these guys are gonna say 50 series or magnaflow. Trust me I did the research for about a year.I have a 5.3 liter engine. Yes size and vehicle type will change your results ie: pickup, ext cab, tahoe, burb.

You didn't say what engine you have, but if you have a 6.0 then they are different than the 5.3's in regards to cab "drone" or "resonance". The 6.0 has a nasty cab drone/resonance if not equiped with the right muffler. For my 6.0 I put a Flo-Pro 2504 and so far I'm happy with it. It's a little louder than stock, nothing that your neighbors will complain about, but it will talk to you if you get on it.

Keep in mind that "Loud" is a subjective word, what is loud to you may be "obnoxiously loud" to another, or really quiet to another. I didn't want something that would turn the head of every cop in a square mile. :nopity:

If you can't get enough info here, there has been lots of talk about different exhaust systems over on SilveradoSS.com :wtf:

I have an '03 Silverado Ext Cab with the 4.8l and a single 50 series big block that run out back with dual 3 1/2 inch x 18 inch resonators that my wife can live with even at 70 mph.
