A friend of mine has wanted my truck for a few years.

It's an LT 6.0L crewcab loaded with what I think was every option in 2001. I have 18650 miles on it. I told him $21600.00 would take it with the fiberglass cap and all the other mods I did to it all the way down to the cathcall floor mats.

Of course I'll replace it with with another Chevy, but it would be a Dmax/Ally crewcab. I would probably have to go to an LS model to keep my payments where they would need to be unless I sold some of my stocks...

Should I keep my barely broken in '01 or sell it and buy a new one with a more motor and less gingerbread?

Here's a pic of my current rig with camper attached.

If you only have 18,650 miles - you won't drive the new one enough to justify the cost...Keep your luxury liner it will do better for you than a diesel that just sits around.

The main reason I would opt for the Dmax/Ally is because I have the '04 Jayco travel trailer and if fuel costs don't skyrocket too far in the next year or so I would like to take the family on some vacations like I had when I was young so they could see the country.

If you're sure you'll be making those family vacation trips, so that you'll be using the truck more than you have the 2001, I'd say go for it. But if in reality the new truck won't be used any more often (or more average annual miles) than the old one I'd say stick to the old one. I voted for selling, btw.

I am voting to keep it, maybe even upgrading it. As the previous message said, "Id keep it until the new body style comes out. I think the new body style comes out in 2007."

It isn't so much the styling but the improved technology for the newer motors in the future. Keep it. If it were mine, I would have no hesitation in holding on to it with the future rigs in mind.

If you have no major problems or concerns about the vehicle, keep it. You don't start getting a return on your investment, purchase, unless you keep a truck 5+years, more like 8 years. Might as well wait for the new models.

I don't think he wants just more power...I think he is looking for fuel economy. Meaning a whipple charger is out of the question. Personally I would sell it and find a nice LT crew with the dmax/ally. I am sure if you look around you can find one close to what you are asking for yours.

Ditto

If fuel economy is the issue, the future is diesel. And from what I've been reading about the soy and corn diesel mixes, it won't be too terribly long until we can all tell OPEC to suck our colective American cobs!

My opinion, if you are going to sell it, wait and see if the 6 speed Allison is coming out next year with a 360 hp version of the Duramax.

That's what I'd do anyway.

Scyry: I wouldn't call any vehicle purchase an "investment." All that truck is going to do is decreas in value (i'm nitpicking here...sorry). Investment is real estate, stocks, M-funds, bonds, etc. They go up. Trucks go down.

All that said, I say keep the truck. Low miles, good running condition. You aren't going to save that much $$$ by going to D-max (remember, you have additional cost of diesel...and any MPG increase must be subtracted from what MPG you already get...it's not that big a difference, trust me.)

Posted

You gotta being kidding me that you even thinking MPG. For the miles driven per year (<4000 per year) the fuel savings is maybe $150 per year. Assuming that you get 10 mpg currently which goes to 15 mpg with the new setup and equivalent prices for the two grades.

Keep the old one its a beaut!

    • New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?
    • So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
    • Hey everyone, I recently had an issue with my 07 2500HD GMT900. My DRL’s stay on at all times. Right front turn and right mirror turn signal indicator stay on solid at all times. By “at all times” I mean the only way to make them go off is disconnecting the battery. I tore the headlight assemblies out, tried disconnecting the harnesses to eliminate bad wiring at the harness, I unplugged the headlight switch, no change and the mirror turn signal still stayed on. My first thoughts were : Bad bulb and/or socket somewhere, under hood fuse panel bad, bcm bad, tail light or trailer wiring problem, or some random short to power in the harness.  Possibly a bad ground but unlikely. I had a big clue in the fuse panel, it had a burnt smell. I started pulling every fuse that had to do with DRL or right turn/park lamp. Nothing made the right directional turn off but pulling the DRL2 fuse made the DRL’s go out.  After studying wiring diagrams, I found that both problems had that fuse panel in common, the bcm also controls both problems but knowing the fuse panel had a burnt smell I removed and disassembled the fuse panel and found a little corrosion on the printed circuit board.  I ordered a new fuse panel from Amazon for like $260. When it arrived I installed it, and put everything back together, the problem was fixed. I figured the fuse panel needed to be replaced anyway so that was a logical place to start. Hopefully this story helps someone in the future. Regretfully I didn’t scan for codes before I did everything.
    • That stinks. I’m sitting on the side of the road right now with the same issue. Never had an issue before taking it in for the ground strap recall. Now I’m outside of warranty and they’ll probably want $200 just to diagnose what they already “fixed”.
