Lowering Question

I'm lowering the back of my 2005 Crew Cab 2'' with lowering shackles. I've been told (according to Bell Tech's web site) that I need a pinion shim kit but when I ordered the shackles (DJM) form Stylin' Concepts, the salesman assured me that I did not need these. Any advise would be appreciated!

None are needed if your only dropping the rear 2". If you put enough weight in the bed it will drop 2" and not harm anything. We put salt spreaders on the company trucks for 5 months straight and that drops the rear about 2.5" with no harn done.

I had a '99 NBS ecsb that I had a 2 - 4 drop. I originally had the shorter front springs installed but after wearing out the insides of 2 sets of tires due to not enough alignment adjustment available, I went to the Beltech spindles.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! YOU WILL BE SORRY.

After installing the spindles, I could not make U-turns with out having to back up, there were some drive-thrus that I couldn't make the turn. And when I was turning and hit a bump, there was a horrible screeching, scraping sound. If you do lower the front go with the dropped A arms. As for the rear with 4" I needed the shims, but with only 2" you might not need them unless you carry alot of weight in the bed, you might get some drive line wrap (vibration and roughness on take off).

Good luck!

SS,

I am going to say something that I have always believed:

What is the point of buying a truck, then slamming it to the ground? It is no longer good for anything. you can't tow with i, you can't haul with it. And if that is the case, what is the point in paying that much money for something that you cannot use? If you want to spend that much money on something that is close to the ground, buy a vette.

I disagree. You can still tow with a lowered truck. You may not be able to tow as much but you can still tow. Not to mention that over half the trucks on the road have not and most likley will never pull a trailer. So why not? Lowered truck are cool. I have just as much respect for them as I do for stock and lifted trucks.

Here is mine.

Hey mcreyaufmiller - I pulled my 22 foot Howard open bow boat with no problem. I had a tool box that was the length of the bed and layed flat in the bed. It was about 250 lbs and I had another 100 lbs of tools in it. I c-notched the frame in the rear and ran airbags to the rear axle. I used my truck as a truck. And with all the wieght back there, the truck rode excellent for a pickup truck. It was no off-roader, it was a street truck. A 2 - 4 drop was what worked for me. I had 17" wheels and 275-60's at all four corners. It went on jobsites with only dirt roads in and out of the site. This was a truck used as a truck! I had 125,000 on it when I sold it and no one thought there were more than 40,000 miles on it. It was a clean machine. A 2 - 4 drop is not slammed, a 5 - 7 drop is slammed. I never complained that I couldn't use my truck what it was designed for. Besides Vettes don't have enough room for my tools.
