Fuel light problems

This has happend several times now and I was hoping someone would have an idea on a fix. Fuel light comes on and the neddle goes to empty, I can open and shut the door or restart and the light and needle go back to normal. Could it be a loose wire on the cluster or a meter?

I had a similar problem with my 02 Burb. It ended up being the sending unit in the fuel tank. It also might be the connection to the sending unit.Hope this helps

Welcome to yet another big common problem on our vehicles, thanks to GM useing very cheap parts and wanting our $$$. Do a search and you will see just how common this problem is. I have it with my 99 Silverado with 93,000 miles and have had it for the past 10,000 miles and am going to wait till its over 100,000 miles before I see how much it will cost to fix.

:withstupid: Join the club! I just use my trip meter and some where around 250 miles it's time for a fill-up, reset and just ignore the fuel gauge...Kinda puts the fun back into driving!

My 2005 Suburban with less than 7K on the dial did the same thing as decribed above. I'm hoping it's a one time issue with this new SUV - I guess I'll wait for another failure until I take it in for warranty work.

The fuel light is just another of GM's little things to build comradely among its customers. :tear:

and another example of poor Quality Control and testing and why more and more people go with imports. Its the little things that make the biggest difference! :tear:

You can buy the sensor only from GMpartsdirect. The last post about this had a part number. Much cheaper than the entire assembly.
