I need some guidence with the repair of the lumbar support in the leather seat on a 2001 2500HD. I had "tapped" a cattle chute and my lumbar support is no longer working.

Are both lumbar operations malfunctioning? If so, then can you hear the lumbar motors functioning? The first thing you need to do is determine if it electrical or mechanical. If you put your ear up to the seat, you should be able to hear the motors operating. There could be a number of issues, please provide some more information. I can help.

It is the driver seat only, and yes I can here the motor running. Is there something that breaks away if there is an impact from behind?

Could your air bladder be punctured? Do you hear the air excaping? Its not that hard to unhook the seat cover in the back and look up into the seat frame to inspect you system out. I had to repair my manual lumbar when the cable came unattached. Try opening your seat skins and inspecting it.
